# Concrete Forms
A new line of steel-and-plywood concrete forms has been introduced by Morgen Manufacturing Company, Yankton, South Dakota.
The Morgen forms are designed to give added strength to the corners and ends that are subjected to the most stress. The ends have continuous 2½ in. wide reinforcing plates.
One man can handle even the largest Morgen panel. The forms weigh about five pounds per square foot, little more than wooden forms, less than most steel-and-plywood forms, and much less than steel forms.
The panels are locked together with a simple method of ties and tie keys to provide fool-proof operation.
Morgen forms are available in three widths and 8 heights, along with corner angles, filler channels, pilaster forms, and culvert angles. Literature is available from Morgen Manufacturing Company, Yankton, South Dakota.
# Shear Transfer Tie
Recent studies sponsored by AA Wire Products Company of Chicago have led to the introduction of an improved shear transfer tie for masonry cavity walls.
This tie is of special value when the loading is in the horizontal span. Under such loads the new shear transfer tie developed lateral load strengths of 1.8 to 1 when tested against the conventional 3/16 "Z" bar with a type "N" mortar.
When a type "S" mortar was used and the frequency of use of the ties was increased the strengths of the walls was increased by a factor of 2 to 1 over the conventional 3/16 "Z" bar tied wall. Method of test and test results are reported in Research Report No. B-862-1 from I. I. T. Research Institute.
The new shear transfer tie is marketed by AA Wire Products Company, Chicago 37, Illinois under the trade name "AA Lok."
# Pan-Type Mixer
Kiwik-Mix Co., Port Washington, Wis., a division of Koehring Co., Milwaukee, has developed a new compulsory mixer line for all concrete mixing applications.
Called Cyclo-Mixer, the new line provides high speed mixing and total agitation. One minute cycle times are claimed possible, and mixing times can reportedly be cut by 50% or more from that required by conventional mixers.
Ideal for producers of concrete products, such as: pipe, block, pre-stressed and pre-cast concrete, and redi-mix, the Cyclo-Mixer is also designed for use by contractors on dams, tunnels, silos, missile sites, etc., and is recommended for mining applications on tunnel and structural work.
Power is from an externally located, standard open, drip-proof, foot-mounted, 220/440 volt, 3-phase, 60-cycle electrice motor. Special voltages, cycles, TEFC, etc., as well as gasoline or diesel power are also available.
In this pan-type mixer, the paddle arrangement has been designed so that angle, spacing, shape and velocity are combined to mix, remix, and scientifically coat every particle of aggregate uniformly.
Flexibility of arrangement in installing this mixer is provided by its low profile, and by the fact that loading may be done from any direction through the top. Concrete is discharged through either slide or drop-type doors in the bottom toward any direction. Extra doors are available for greater directional adaptability.
The Kwik-Mix Cyclo-Mixer has a low, flat, standard steel center cover for minimum charging height. Removable, dust-tight panels of steel or aluminum are optional. The spinner with torsion bar loaded arms, has only smooth, round surfaces providing ease of cleaning and maintenance.
Although the first Cyclo-Mixer is a ½-yard machine, Kwik-Mix will extend the line to include 1 yard and 1½-yard capacity models.
For full information on the Cyclo-Mixer pan-type concrete mixer, write to: Kwik-Mix Co., 235 West Grand Avenue, Port Washington, Wis.
# Approval
Dur-O-wal truss design masonry wall reinforcement has been granted approval by the Southern Building Code Congress.
The Southern Building Code Committee on Compliance issued approvals which will allow use of Dur-O-wal for bonding the facing and backing of cavity walls, solid walls and hollow masonry walls. Bonding multiwythe masonry walls in lieu of brick headers, As a reinforcement in structural glass block panels, for bonding intersecting masonry bearing walls. As satisfactory minimum reinforcement for load bearing masonry walls laid in stacked bond. As metal ties for anchorage of masonry veneer and for use of part or all of the required horizontal reinforcement in reinforced masonry.
The approval of Dur-O-wal, runs through May, 1965.
A comprehensive data file on Dur-O-wal is offered by the manufacturer free of charge. Write: Dur-O-wal. National, Inc., P. O. Box 150, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for a copy.
# Barrier Creams
Basic requirements on use of barrier creams for protection against occupational dermatitis are outlined in a technical report available from Mine Safety Appliances Company, Pittsburgh.
The report also describes and classifies the firm's Fend creams which form a physical barrier to water soluble irritants; and lists appropriate uses in a comprehensive application chart.
Dr. T. E. Jones, a consultant to Carbisulphoil Company, Dallas, Tex, is the author.
Copies of the report-No. 1060 -may be obtained by writing: Mine Safety Appliances Company, 201 North Braddock Avenue, Pittsburgh 8, Pa.
# Heater
Champion Heater Company of St. Louis, Missouri, has announced development of a new 80,000 B. T. U. addition to its 1963-64 line of portable oil burning space heaters.
The new heater, designated as the "Li'l Champ-T has a 14-hour fuel capacity which, according to Champion, provides 50% more burning time than any heater in its class. In addition, the company states the "Li'l Champ-T" circulates a greater volume of HEATED air than any other 80,000 B. T. U. heater... 450 cubic feet per minute.
Light only 45 pounds empty, and compact 24 in. high, 16 in. wide and 30 in. long.
"Lil Champ-T" is engineered specifically for fast, efficient operation and easy portability to any part of a job site. The "Lil Champ-T" can be used to supply safe, clean heat to workmen in work areas, inside or outdoors, ground level or on scaffolding. Burns kerosene or No. 1 fuel oil, operates on standards 110V, AC current, and is thermostatically controlled.

OM-280 is an electric water purifier.
# Inter-Mix Units
Two completely opaque textured units, with ceramic finish simulating masonry, have been added to Pittsburgh Corning's Intaglio line.
Called Intaglio "Inter-Mix" Units, they are available in both a square (8 inches by 8 inches) and a rectangular (8 inches by 4 inches) shape. These additions permit greater design variety when combined with the four basic patterns introduced last year.
The original four Intaglio designs have recessed design areas of crystal-like clear pattern glass. The surrounding raised areas have the same concrete-gray, opaque ceramic finish as the two new "Inter-Mix" Units, so that the two types of units present a homogenous surface when used together.
Applications of "Inter-Mix" Units are the same as those of Intaglio pattern units, including both interior and exterior walls of public, commercial, industrial and residential structures. They are regarded by Pittsburgh Corning as particularly well-suited for curtain walls in office buildings, schools, churches, stores, motels, apartments, hotels, banks, gymnasiums, factories and auditoriums.
The new units greatly increase the desing potential of Intaglio. The six different designs now available can be used in a wide variety of combinations. Addition of "Inter-Mix" Units heightens the contrast in both surface and color between the sparkle of the pattern glass and the textured opaque gray of the concrete surrounding areas.
"Inter-Mix" Units come in two sizes-an 8-inch square and an 8-inch by 4-inch rectangle. They are 4 inches thick.
As with the Intaglio pattern units, the new units permit "one-operation" wall structure.
