Travel several hundred miles to the nearest appellate office and obtain a conference.

There are some 58 IRS District Offices. The IRS Commissioner, Donald C. Alexander, said, "Now there will be someone at the district level who has settlement authority. Right at the beginning the taxpayer can talk to someone who has the authority to consider the hazards of litigation and possibly settle his case once and for all."

According to the Commissioners, the taxpayers will benefit first in terms of time and legal fees saved where district level settlements can be obtained. And there will be additional benefits to the taxpayers in that processing time will be reduced and thus possibly resulting in less interest to be paid. (I.R. News Rel. I.R. 1346.)

Tall slender brick columns and graceful arches present a regal air to passing traffic in the heart of Vancouver, Wash. This all-masonry structure was constructed of a blend of charcoal brown smooth-face brick to blend with the surrounding buildings.

Architect: Keith Bradbury
Structural Engineer: Donald Kramer & Associates.
General Contractor: C. E. John Construction Co.
Mason Contractor: William T. Abella

Located in the heart of Vancouver's financial district, this graceful building featuring high slender columns and brick arches creates a striking appearance and a regal air to passing traffic. Floor-to-ceiling windows take advantage of the summer sunshine, and the arcade serves as a shelter during the Northwest's inclement weather.

The structural engineer specified 4" tubular steel supports within the slender brick columns supporting the roof system to comply with the requirements of Seismic Zone #2. An Armstrong lighting and ceiling system, new to the Vancouver area, provides a pleasant working climate in the daytime and visual protection and safety during closing hours.

Face brick selected by the architect and owners are smooth face in both standard and Norman dimensions. Colors are a blend of charcoal brown complimented by the bronze anodized aluminum of the mansard and sash frames and the bronze tone of the plate glass.
