Brick Industry Association (BIA) is the national trade association representing manufacturers and distributors of clay brick products. Founded in 1934, BIA is the recognized authority on clay brick construction. The association serves as a resource and information center for the membership and construction industry.
BIA's communications program provides information to their members and those in the brick industry. They hold regularly scheduled press conferences and feature material is distributed to daily newspapers and trade journals.
In 1985, they began their consumer marketing programs aimed at the residential construction market. Following the success of the initial program, a number of local promotion programs were started under the direction and sponsorship of a group of large brick manufacturers. With more than twenty such programs now being funded and new ones started every year, BIA serves as a clearing house for marketing information and supports the regional programs through national advertising and the production of sales and promotional literature.
Through continuous advertising in major trade publications, BIA's marketing efforts in the non-residential marketplace focuses on architects and developers to encourage their use of brick. BIA's publication, Brick in Architecture, illustrates to architects, developers and contractors creative uses for brick. Its circulation of 105,000, ranks first in architectural publications in the country.
BIA's engineering and research commitment involves publishing technical literature, providing liaison between code and standards organizations, contact with federal construction agencies, cooperative research efforts on the use of brick masonry and construction techniques, and technical services for members and building professionals. These services consist of on-site inspection and consulting.
Upon member request, a BIA engineer will visit building sites where problems have occurred. After inspection possible remedies will be provided. As a further service to the industry, BIA provides consulting to design and construction professionals.
Through their governmental relations activities, BIA has kept national leaders informed of the needs of the brick industry. Consultants collect and analyze potential legislation and propose federal regulations which affect member manufacturer interests. This assures that a unified voice is heard by the legislators and officials whose decisions affect the industry.
BIA has established programs to train needed masons. They support vocational education programs in secondary and post secondary school systems by developing and selling textbooks, study guides and project sheets. They also provide career brochures, posters and promotional videos to guidance counselors to assist them with career planning programs.
Their vocational education programs are complemented by industry education which covers every facet of brick productions, sales and use. Short courses, seminars, and a system of panelists and keynote speakers provide industry field and sales representatives with a working knowledge of brick masonry.
In cooperation with the American Institute of Architects, BIA conducts a national awards program for architects. Held every other year, the Brick in Architecture Awards program draws hundreds of entries from all over the United States and Canada. The awards are presented in conjunction with the AIA convention and the winners are featured in a special edition of Brick in Architecture.

BRICK PAVER WORK MADE EASIER WITH BRIC-EDG
Safer and easier to work with than steel, aluminum or soft plastic edgings.
The unique design of our Bric-Edg™ edging stops the pavers from moving horizontally and allows grass or plants to grow right next to the brick/pavers.
By placing the edging under the brick you give it more strength as a combined unit. Then as the weight of the brick pushes down on the horizontal leg, the vertical leg is pulled tighter against the outside edge of the brick paver. Since our design uses the brick and edging as a combined unit there is no problem with frost heaving or ground movement. The edging is staked down, the brick is on top of the edging and the outside edge is backed up with compacted soil, rock or turf. The entire system will rise and fall together throughout cold or warm seasonal ground movements.
