South of 40 Conference one week away

Words: David Biggs, Joe Alonzo, Dr. IrizarryThe 2013 South of 40 Conference will be held in one week on Monday, May 6, 2013 in Washington, D.C. The conference is open to attendees of all ages.

The South of 40 Conference will begin at 8:00 AM with three education programs held at the National Cathedral that you won't want to miss. Joe Alonzo, head mason at the National Cathedral, will present a history of the National Cathedral with a focus on the 2011 earthquake damage and repairs.

Dr. Javier Irizarry, Assistant Professor in the School of Building Construction at the Georgia Institute of Technology, will follow with Innovation in Construction Information Technology: Current Trends and Future Directions. In this presentation, current trends in information mobility and visualization will be discussed and future efforts in areas such as BIM-assisted Mobile Augmented Reality and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle sensing in construction sites will be introduced. Challenges and opportunities of the presented technological trends will also be discussed.

The final presentation of the morning will be a discussion on Building Information Modeling (BIM) and how it will affect the mason. David Biggs, P.E. will discuss what BIM is, how it affects your company and what it means for the masonry industry.

The morning will conclude with a tour of the National Cathedral.

Following lunch, attendees will receive a special behind-the-scenes tour of the National Cathedral with Joe Alonzo. At the conclusion of the tour, a bus will provide transportation to the U.S. Capitol for a special tour with a Congressional staff member.

The 2013 South of 40 Conference will wrap-up with an evening reception at the Keelen Group offices.
