Belgard backs comparative permeable research

Below are a few current examples of Belgard's work with various organizations around the country.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

Belgard is preparing to support a research project for the WDNR at a Costco Wholesale facility in Middleton, WI, that will compare permeable interlocking concrete paver (PICP) performance as compared to porous asphalt and porous concrete. Goals of the study include determining the levels of pollutant reduction achieved, whether the infiltration rate changes over time, and whether the surface stays clear of ice and snow with less salt use. Results of the study will be used to help develop the state's technical standard for permeable pavement.

Texas A&M University

Belgard recently worked with Texas A&M to begin a long-term study comparing various permeable pavements regarding runoff reduction, clogging of surfaces, and groundwater contamination. Belgard also assisted the university in hosting a seminar for municipal officials and storm water design professionals to discuss and demonstrate the design, engineering, and installation of permeable pavement systems.

North Carolina State University

Belgard is currently supporting research funding and materials for a permeable pavement installation on the campus of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, NC. The research on NCCU's campus will be conducted by Dr. William Hunt of North Carolina State University (NCSU) to study effective storm water infiltration and pollutant removal with the worst infiltrating soils in the state. Dr. Hunt and his colleagues at NCSU assist the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources with crafting the state's Stormwater BMP Design Manual.
