Dignity Act Update

The Dignity Act should be taking a huge step forward this week. We have learned that an announcement is forthcoming from a bi-partisan group called the Problem Solvers in Congress. They had a caucus vote last week to consider the Dignity Act as a program they may endorse. Word is that the Dignity Act had the votes required from this group to have formal approval. The MCAA has been following and involved in activities to help support this measure. While time is short for this Congress, the Dignity Act will be re-introduced in the new Congress in January/February of 2025 and now is positioned with this backing to become a key solution to the immigration debate.

Bipartisan Caucus in the House of Representatives Co-Charied by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ). The Caucus consists of 62 members of the House split evenly between the two parties, 31 Republicans and 31 Democrats. The Caucus was created to have a bloc of enough common sense members of both parties willing to stand together to find common ground on big issues facing our country that would not only push forward solutions, but also vote together to impact what can and cannot pass the House.

The Problem Solvers Caucus has a process to endorse bipartisan legislation, providing their backing and promise to stand together to advance the bill should it come to the House floor for a vote. For the Caucus to officially endorse a bill they hold a secret ballot vote where a total of 75% of the Caucus must vote in favor (with over 50% of the Republican members and 50% of the Democrats must also vote yes)
