ATKOWSKI SPEAKS
SCPI CONVENTION
WASHINGTON, D. C.-T. J. Shatkowski, Chairman, MCAA Research Committee, was one of the featured speakers at the annual convention of Structural Clay Products Institute at the Shoreham Hotel. Mr. Shatkowski attended the MCAA Executive Meeting in Miami, Fla., then departed directly for the Washington meeting on Nov. 6 thru 8.

EUGENE, OREGON G. Earl Blackstock, Seattle, Washington, Chapter, was elected to head the Pacific Northwest Conference at a meeting there on Sept. 23rd. Chapters from Oregon and Washington met on Friday evening to review their activities and study various chapter problems that had arisen. Chairman Leonard Rose, Portland Chapter, presided at the regular business session on Sunday morning where reports, conference business and the election were held. Following the business meeting the group attended the University of Oregon football game and then were guests of the local Eugene Chapter at a Dinner Dance held at the Eugene Hotel. Officers of the Eugene Chapter are: Cecil Saxon, President; S. C. Mathers, Vice President and Paul Young, Secretary-Treasurer.

AK AT CONFERENCE
CHICAGO, ILL. Herschel W. Kruse, MCAA Apprenticeship Committee Chairman, was one of the featured speakers at the 2nd annual North Central States Apprenticeship Conference held at the Conrad Hilton, Oct. 26-27. MCAA members who spoke were Gregor Pichler and D. G. Beyer of the Milwaukee Chapter.

MILWAUKEE, WIS. Robert Carter, Shelby Mutual Insurance Co., spoke on the role of the Safety Engineer at the Nov. 10th meeting of the Chapter of Milwaukee. Also attending the meeting was George Miller, MCAA Ex. Vice President, who reported on the various activities of the Association. Members were treated to a special repast when 10 large, fat turkeys were given away to lucky winners and exact size models presented to

MOLINE, ILL. Frank Laureys, Barrington, Ill., was selected as the Vice President elect for Illinois at a meeting of the State MCAA Chapters held at the LeClaire Hotel, Oct. 27-28. Over 42 members were in attendance as State Vice President Reno Fabbri concluded his official duties. On Saturday the group journeyed to Iowa to tour two manufacturing plants. First stop was at the huge Dewey Portland Cement Co. where the members were taken on a complete trip of the facilities. One of the most interesting phases of the tour was that of viewing the tunnel kilns where the raw material was converted by intense heat into elinker for the processing into the final product. From this firm the group went down into the large lime mine being used by the Linwood Lime Co. The huge size and tremendous potential of the mine perhaps made this the highlight of the entire trip. From here the members inspected the tunnel kiln and material processing of the Linwood Lime Co. plant. Following the tours the group was guest of the two firms for luncheon. Host for the meeting was the Quad-City Chapter headed by Robert Martin. Other officers are: Irene Cocquyt, Vice President; and James Duncan Secre-tary-Treasurer.

SCPI PRESIDENT
WASHINGTON, D. C.-A. C. Frisk, Iowa brick and tile manufacturer, was elected President of the Structural Clay Products Institute at its annual convention here on November 7. Frisk, who is President of The Goodwin Companies, served last year as Chairman of the Structural Clay Products Research Foundation. He makes his headquarters in Mason City, Iowa. The newly-elected Vice President is William S. Sells, President of General Shale Products Corporation, Johnson City, Tennessee. George Gammie, President of the Illinois Brick Company, Chicago, was re-elected Treasurer. Joseph J. Cermak of Washington, D. C. staff of SCPI was re-elected Secretary.

CHICAGO, ILL. The Mason Contractors Association of Cook County held their 16th annual Banquet and Dinner Dance on Saturday evening, Nov. 11th, at the Ambassador West Hotel. John Chapman, Jr., GSA, Washington, D. C., was one of the distinguished guests attending.
RE-ELECT OFFICERS
CLEVELAND, OHIO All officers of the Cleveland Building Trades Employers' Association were re-elected at the 45th annual meeting of the Board of Directors on Oct. 3. Milton A. Thesmacher, Chairman; Horace E. Wetzell, President; and William J. Hunkin II, Vice President, all begin their eighth term in office, Executive Manager of the group is John Hull with Robert F. Dalton the Assistant Executive Manager.
