Name Stone Moderator
'62 MCAA Jamboree
LWAUKEE, WIS. Robert Sing, Chairman, MCAA Material Handling Committee, has announced Arthur Stone, Division Marketing Manager, United Brick Div., American-Marietta Co., will again be the moderator for the MCAA Material Handling Jamboree. Mr. Stone has handled each of the previous material demonstrations held by the Association.
W. W. Bartlett, Houston, will be chairman of the Convention Material Handling Jamboree. Others on the committee are: Art Algaier, D. G. Don Bidwell, Frank Camisso, Fabbri, Al Rubin, James Snyder, and Joe DiBartollo.
May Announces New Convention Program
HOUSTON, TEXAS A new approach to the program scheduling of the MCAA Convention has been announced by Herman L. May, Convention Chairman. This year, Mr. May states, the first session of the Convention will feature outstanding industry leaders. During this session, the ladies will be invited to join the members in hearing these important addresses. On Tuesday the regular speaking agenda has been dropped. Three new Workshop Sessions will be held on topics of major interest to all. The first is a "Trade Tip" session where manufacturers will present the latest ideas in the field. The second Workshop Session will feature "Panelization." Here leading Mason Contractors will demonstrate to the delegates their systems of installation on various types of panels. The final Workshop will be on "Financing" with Ralph Rogers, President, Texas Industries, being the featured speaker. Each of the new sessions will highlight the practical approach.
The annual meeting on Tuesday afternoon will be followed by the annual Banquet and Dinner Dance to be held in the beautiful Emerald Room of the Shamrock Hotel. Shep Field will provide the music and entertainment.
On Wednesday morning the popular MCAA Material Handling Jamboree will be held on the ground of the hotel. Many special features are being added this year to make the viewer as comfortable as possible.
Mr. May urges all to make their Advance Registration and Hotel Reservations as soon as possible.
John J. Murphy MCAA Convention Speaker
WASHINGTON, D. C. John J. Murphy, president of the Bricklayers, Masons & Plasterers' International Union, will address the 12th annual Convention of the Mason Contracters Association of America to be held at the Shamrock Hilton Hotel, Houston, Texas.
Convention Chairman Herman L. May announced that Mr. Murphy had accepted the invitation to speak at MCAA's Convention during the recent Executive Board Meeting of the Association held in Miami.
Mr. Murphy was elected to the office of President, a position he had held since retirement of Harry C. Bates, at the Los Angeles Convention of the Bricklayers Union. Prior to that Mr. Murphy was Secretary of the Union. He formerly was director of the organization for the American Federation of Labor. In addition, he had served as a labor advisor to Gen. Douglas MacArthur and his staff in Tokyo, and as a labor member of both the National Wage Stabilization and Construction Industry Stabilization boards. He was personel representative to William Green, the late president of A.F. of L., on the Atomic Energy Commission.
Varied Program MCAA Ladies
The 1961 MCAA Ladies' Program will be one of the most exciting ever scheduled. The program will offer a variety of activities with many changes being made from other years. On Monday the ladies are invited to join the men in the opening session of the Convention where they will hear addresses by important industry leaders. In addition to the regular Coffee Hour, the ladies will have tours, attend fashion shows besides the many functions of the Convention. The banquet on Tuesday evening will be in the Emerald Room of the Shamrock Hotel with music and entertainment by Shep Fields.
