The group proceeded to the Hall of Exhibits to meet with representatives of firms displaying at the Show. Apprenticeship came under study at 2 p.m. when Chairman Herschel Hunt presided over the Annual Apprenticeship Conference. Mr. Hunt was assisted by William Roark, Mason Relations Director, SCPI. Later that afternoon Ted Shatkowski, Chairman of the MCAA Research Committee, called his group into session to hear and review various problems submitted by MCAA members.
The Tuesday morning session was a series of three workshop sessions. At 8:45 a.m. panel moderator James Lovie called the Trade Tips session to order. Here manufacturers presented a series of ideas designed to save mason contractors time and money during the year. One of the most interesting of those presented was the demonstration by Structural Clay Products Research Foundation on the work being done on high bond mortar. Corb Garton of SCPRF gave a factual review of the project to date. Another demonstration which caught the eye of the delegates was that by the Vermiculite Institute on the insulation of various types of masonry walls. Les Barron of the Institute also revealed a new type hopper which can be used in the placement of insulation.
The second session, entitled "Panelization New Horizons for the Masonry Industry," drew a standing room crowd only. Moderated by Research Chairman T. J. Shatkowski, the program presented Fred Beyer.
E. L. Oatman, Oscar Person and Henry Toennies. Their presentation was excellent, and a full report on this will be made available to members.
Topping off the sessions was the address by Ralph Rogers, president of Texas Industries, on Financing for the Mason Contractor. To those attending, the address was one of the highlights of the entire meeting.
The annual meeting, Tuesday afternoon, was called to order by President Raimo at 1:35 p.m. in the Blue Bonnet Room of the Shamrock Hotel, and opened with reports of the officers. Chairmen of the standing Committees were then called on for their reports. The chair then called on Nominating Committee Chairman, Mr. Anthony Perri, who asked that Co-Chairman Fred Daues present the slate of officers for election.
