A. WILHELM PROMOTED

James M. Wilhelm, 25, was recently promoted to Vice President of the F. A. Wilhelm Construction Company, with general offices located at 3914 Prospect Street, Indianapolis. The appointment of his son, James, was announced at a recent year-end board meeting by the President and founder of the company, Francis A. Wilhelm.

After graduating from the Campion High School in Wisconsin, James went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Notre Dame University, Class of '58. James, his wife, Patricia, and his two daughters, Susan and Michele, reside at 4406 Brighton Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana.

James, known by most all in the construction as "Tippy," has been employed by the F. A. Wilhelm Construction Company, full time, since his college graduation year and has worked "on the job" training since the age.

Wilhelm Construction Company is an old Indianapolis firm which has been serving the community and surrounding areas for a period of many years.


LISH NEW BROCHURE

HOUSTON, TEXAS-The Herman May & Co., Inc. has published a 4-page brochure with a "sales message" as well as pictures of many buildings.

May is a progressive masonry contractor doing work primarily in the Houston, Texas area. He is active in the Masonry Contractors Association of America, past president of Masonry Contractors of Texas and vice president of the Houston Chapter of the Texas association.

Herman stated he "feels the masonry contractor needs to help promote masonry construction and give assistance to the masonry product people who are promoting the use of their products with architects, masons, engineers, etc." "I expect to publish and distribute more brochures and information to architects and general contractors, as well as to the industry."

Herman May's slogan is: Experience and Pride in Workmanship is Your Guarantee. He uses the back cover of the brochure to introduce his key men.


1962 AIA Honor Awards

Washington, D. C.-The American Institute of Architects today announced selection of eight buildings to receive its 1962 Honor Awards, the nation's highest professional recognition for architectural merit.

The lone First Honor Award went to Foothill College in Los Altos, California. Architects were the office of Ernest J. Kump of Palo Alto, in association with Masten & Hurd, San Francisco.

Award of Merit winners were: Housing Group of single family residences by Roger Lee Associates of California; a Residence in Connecticut by Ulrich Franzen of New York; a Development house in La Jolla by architects Killingsworth, Brady, Smith of Long Beach, California; Tennis Pavilion at Princeton University by Ballard, Tood and Snibbe of New York; St. John's Abbey Church in Collegeville, Minnesota by Marcel Breuer and Associates of New York; Convent of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, Pennsylvania, by Decter & Ritchey of Pittsburgh; and a High School in Sarasota, Florida by Paul M. Rudolph of New Haven, Connecticut.

Selections were made by a jury including architects Arthur Gould Odell, Jr., FAIA, Chairman, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Charles R. Colbert AIA, New York, Paul M. Heffernan, AIA, Atlanta, Georgia; Karl Kamrath, FAIA, Houston, Texas, and Paul Hayden Kirk, FAIA, of Seattle, Washington.

The awards will be presented during the national AIA convention May 7-11 in Dallas.


MARKERT ACCEPTS NEW ASSOCIATION POST

William P. Markert has submitted his resignation as Director of Promotion for the National Concrete Masonry Association to become Executive Director of the newly organized Candy, Chocolate and Confectionery Institute. He will assume his new duties on March 1, 1962 at the Institute's headquarters in Chicago.

The Candy, Chocolate and Confectionery Institute is sponsored by the Candy Brokers Association of America, the Chocolate Manufacturers Association, the National Association of Tobacco Distributors and Associated Retail Confectioners, the National Candy Wholesalers Association and the National Confectioners Association. As executive head of this organization, Mr. Markert will direct a major national public relations program for the candy and chocolate industries.

A native of Ishpeming, Michigan, Mr. Markert attended Northwestern University from which he holds a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration. He is a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor while serving with the U. S. Army's 76th Division in the European theatre.

With Mrs. Markert and their four children, Andrew, Margaret, William, Jr., and Janet, he will make his new home in Elgin, Illinois.
