ELECTS '62 OFFICERS

HARRISBURG, PA. The Mason Contractors Association of Central Pennsylvania has elected the following officers for the coming year: James F. Keiser, President; Warren W. Snyder, Vice President; Otto Scheib, Secretary; F. M. Zuna, Treasurer, and Thomas Scott, Assistant Secretary.


MEMPHIS CHAPTER
ELECTS SCHNELL

MEMPHIS, TENN. N. H. Schnell has been elected President of the Memphis Chapter of the Mason Contractors Association of America. Other officers of the group are: Ray McMillan, Vice President and W. A. Fortner, Secretary-Treasurer.


YOUNG BROTHERS WIN
MEMPHIS AIA AWARD

For the fourth time in four years, Young Bros. Masonry Contractors has won the Memphis Chapter AIA citation for outstanding masonry work in the city. The firm recevied the award from Memphis Chapter AIA President Raymond Martin Wednesday night, January 10, in a ceremony at Colonial Country Club. Co-sponsoers of the meeting were the Mason Contratcors Association of Memphis, John A. Denies Sons Co., Fisher Lime & Cement Co., Mississippi-Louisiana Brick & Tile Manufacturers Association, and Souther Brick & Tile manufatcurers Association.

Young Brothers' award came for its work on the Leader Federal branch building at 2800 Lamar. The masonry employed was brick-sized concrete units arranged in a difficult saw-tooth pattern. The judging committee's citation noted the unusual joint uniformity despite the difficult pattern.

Two firms were tied for first honorable mention by the judges. N. H. Schnell Company and Gardners Masonry Contractors shared this distine-tion for work on St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church and the Emmons Office Building. Troy Graham Masonry Company received second honorable mention for its work on the Kensington Baptist Church sanctuary.

The Memphis Memphis Chapter AIA's construction relations committee did the judging. The committee is composed of Frank Repult, Jr., Clarence H. Fisher and Tom Albin.

Structural Clay Products Institute of Washington, D. C., along with the two regional manufacturers' asocia-tions provided the program. Included was a premiere showing of a new film "Prologue to Masonry."

Bandleader Shep Fields attended Brooklyn's Erasmus Hall High School which also contributed Waite Hoyt, Sid Luckman, Barbara Stanwyck, and Gene Rossides to the world of entertainment and sports.

RECEIVES SCPI AWARD

WASHINGTON, D. C. Leonard Stulman (right), Baltimore, Maryland home builder, receives the first annual Structural Clay Products Institute award for brick merchandising from Roy A. Shipley, Chairman of the SCPI Awards Committee at the recent association's annual convention here. Stulman's firm is the Edmondale Building Company, Baltimore.

The national award was presented to Stulman for his "foresight and energy in the promotion of brick for the building of houses through the continuous employment of forceful newspaper advertising in the Balti-more area." The citation lauded Stulman for his efforts in "directing the attention of the public to the inherent and superior qualities of brick in home construction."


MASONRY INSTITUTE
ELECTS OFFICERS

The Masonry Institute, Inc. of Washington, D. C., following its annual meeting at the Shoreham Hotel, announces its officials for the coming year. The annual meeting elected the following to three year terms on the Board of Directors: Harvey Williams of HYCON, manufacturer of concrete masonry units; Gen. T. M. Osborne of West Brothers Brick Co.; Myron Cowell of A. Myron Cowell, Inc.; Harlan Fraley of T. D. Fraley and Sons, Inc.; and John Dixon of John Dickson Bricklaying. The last three are masonry contractors. Continuing Directors are: Nelson B. Woodson of A. P. Woodson Co.; Durwood L. Boeglen of Cushwa Brick & Building Supply; Joseph H. Deekman of R. Robinson, Inc.; E. Taylor Chewning, Jr., United Clay Products; John C. Harding, Washington Brick Co.; Edmund H. Brooke of National Brick & Supply Co. Inc.; and masonry con-tractors, Anthony Izzo, Magnus Larsson, Nunzio Litterio, Belden G. Raymond (Anchor Associates).

The new Board of Directors subsequently selected the following of-ficers: John C. Harding, Jr., President; Nelson B. Woodson, 1st Vice President; Myron Cowell, 2nd Vice President; Joseph Deckman, Secretary; Treasurer, Belden Raymond. Executive Secretary is Giles Evans.
