Arizona Apprentice Contest
The first apprentice contest for the Phoenix-Tucson, Arizona area was held on April 28th at the El Con Shopping Center in Tucson. Thomas Martel was the winner with Donald Bertram, Larry Wolfe and Ke Lang in two, three and four respectively. Frank April, Mason contractor of Tucson, William Wilde, architect of Tucson, and Paul E steel, Bricklayer of Phoenix, were the judges.

In this same Class, an Honorable Mention was awarded MIA's American Standard's Specifications for Interior Marble.

In Class Four, "Space Advertising Directed Primarily to the Architect," the MIA was awarded a Certificate of Merit for a full page, four-color advertisement which is headlined "Marble Makes an Excellent First Impression."

A total of 227 entries were reviewed during a two-day period. The Jury of Awards in this twelfth competition consisted of: D. K. Sargent, FAIA; Edgar H. Berners, FAIA; Marcellus Wright, Jr., AIA; and R. Lloyd Snedaker, AIA.
