Earthquake Study
A three-man team of engineering experts from the Portland Cement Association left Chicago early in September for Skoplje, Yugoslavia to survey damage caused by the devastating earthquake of July 26.
The party includes Walter E. Kunze, Jr., manager of the Association's Structural Bureau, Mark Fintel, PCA senior structural engineer, and James Amrhein, supervising structural engineer in the Association's Los Angeles District. Mr. Kunze will also serve as a representative of the American Concrete Institute.
Purpose of the trip is to study the seismic resistance of concrete structures to the violent earth tremors which struck the provincial capital of Macedonia. Findings of the three-man team will be part of a continuing PCA earthquake study, which includes collection of technical information following the Mexico City quake of 1957 and the Chilean disaster of 1960.
PCA Wins Two Awards
The American Society of Agricultural Engineers has announced the awarding of two blue ribbons to the Portland Cement Association for its entries in the Society's annual extension exhibits competition.
The awards, presented at the 1963 ASAE Annual Meeting held this year in Miami Beach, were received for a publication, "Concrete Improvements for Farm and Ranch," and a sound-color film, "Modern Pork Production."
Then there was the boss who is supposed to have called in his most faithful employee and said, "Truslow, I notice you've been overworked lately. Keep it up."
