CAA Holds Hi-Bond Mortar School

DETROIT, MICH. The Detroit Mason Contractors Association held their Annual Outing on July 25th at the Pine Brook Golf Course with over 200 men in attendance for the evening dinner. Highlight of the afternoon was the Annual Softball game between the Mason Contractors and the Suppliers. This year due to some excellent fielding and tremendous power hitting the Mason Contractors emerged victorious.

FONTANA, WIS. Fifty members attended the first Hi-Bond Mortar School here on July 31st. The course sponsored by the Mason Contractors Association of America, Structural Clay Products Research Foundation and Dow Chemical Co. provided each of the participants with an opportunity to mix, handle and lay brick with the new masonry mortar.
Instructors were: M. H. "Mal" Allen and Corb Garton, SCPRF and A. A. "Bert" Hill, Dow Chemical Co. See page 12 for a photo review of the outdoor workshop session.

The program, held at the Sacramento Inn, featured a cocktail hour, dinner and presentation of individual awards. Harold Blomberg. Secretary of the Sacramento Masonry Board, welcomed the guests and described the purpose of the program as well as the functions of the Joint Board. Announcement of winners and narration of the full-color slide presenta- tion depicting the Award designs was made by Robert W. Harrington, Man- ager of the Unit Masonry Association of Northern California.
New Home-Study Course
A new home-study course that will enable architects and engineers to de- sign fallout shelters in new buildings and evaluate the radiation protection afforded in existing buildings will be offered starting September 1 by the University of Wisconsin, the Depart- (Continued on page 21)
