From the start we had problems, but when you look back everyone on the Abbey staff pitched in to make the Summer Executive meeting most enjoyable. The Abbey has only been open just two short months, and in this time has done a fantastic job gearing for the task of serving the huge crowds which are converging upon the Lake Geneva area. The swimming pools were popular attractions, and Bob Rawlins of Pittsburgh Corning will attest to the fact that they can be hazards. He's the first person to be peacefully asleep in a restful lounge chair one minute and the next minute flying through the air for a beautiful four point landing in the middle of the pool chair area.
Karen Cook tried to move the bottom of the indoor pool down a few inches. Fortunately her head and neck suffered very little. The boating was terrific. Don Bidwell and Reno Proietti with their boats provided excellent cruises for many. Water skiers Ed and Donna Dietrich were the top performers.
Locksmiths and other interested persons gathered in the Abbey parking lot on Friday morning to assist Fred Daues, but unfortunately experts were few and far between. In the rush to get the annual golf tournament on schedule Fred, with the skill of a Brinks guard, locked his only car keys in the trunk of his car. A Ford representative with 89 master keys tackled this task and conquered it with only nine deft moves. Traveling over the water to the Hillmore Country Club course, 35 members competed for the beautiful Glass Block trophy. Les Davis took all honors but Rod Antrim, Edward Heimbrock, Reno Proietti, Pete Germinaro, E. J. DiSalvo, Joe Szabo, Fred Daues and Joe Sommers all came in under 100 with Bob Harrison and Don Bidwell taking the cake with a solid score of 100 on the button. Other golfers were T. M. Kirk, Carl Gestle, D. G. Beyer, Clarence Bundy, Harry Strauss, P. Tubesing, George Arconti, Bob Rawling, Frank Laureys, Glen DeMuth and Chuck Bolek.
Caution to the professionals, we hear the younger generation is nipping at your heels for the golf honors. Top golfers such as Mike Bundy, Ben and Henry Strauss, Donald DeMuth, and Julie, Jimmy and Joey Szabo are ready to step up to accept the honors.
