Allen Bates, chief of the Building Research Div. of the National Bureau of Standards was the featured speaker at the May 2nd meeting of the Chicago District Council of the American Society for Testing and Materials. Lyle Omdahl, Vice President, Omark Industries, announces the appointment of Robert J. Kane as controller and Wedell O. Walker as assistant controller.
Jack Clark, SCPI, director of promotion, announcer the release of a new 24-page Homebuyer's Handbook, aimed directly at the prospective homebuyer. Paul Rosensteel has been elected Secretary of the Phoenix CSI group.
R. E. Copeland, NCMA's former Director of Engineering, was honored recently by ASTM for his work with the society. William Pfleger, Jr., has been appointed director of marketing for Penn-Dixie Cement Corp.
John Harrington has been named general sales mamanger for Edick Laboratories, Inc. Reports in from Urbana, III., indicate that a "hot" putting match is currently on between members Everett Veach and Bert Padgett. Latest tabulations show a tie, but a big playoff golf game is in the making.

George M. Petzar, the Associate District Engineer for Arizona has been named Western Regional Manager to succeed John M. McNerney who has been granted a leave of absence for reasons of health.
Regional headquarters will be associated with the present District office for Northern California and Southern Nevada located at 235 Montgomery Street in San Francisco.

The one-day confab was climaxed by the banquet in the evening, attended by more than 600 persons. Awards were presented to the two masonry contractors who built the outstanding commercial (or public) and residential buildings of the year.
Mr. Child called he meeting to order and Mrs. Henry Ellerman, chairman of the ladies program, greeted the early comers. Bishop Carl Reiner, formerly of the Presiding Bishopric of the LDS Church, offered the invocation.
Masons and their suppliers were told that the economic spurt generated in Utah by the missile industry would soon level off due to a slow down in that industry's expansion.
