Eighty per cent of all the walls in
Phoenix are Superlite block insulated
with vermiculite.
In his talk entitled, "Use of light-
weight Insulating Fill in Corps of En-
gineers' Construction," Mr. Zackrison
stated that the additional testing pro-
gram of vermiculite masonry fill for
cavity wall construction, which Ver-
miculite Institute conducted at the re-
quest of the Corps, has indicated that
water-repellent vermiculite can prop-
erly be used by the Corps as an in-
sulating material.
"Numerous studies which we have
made in recent years indicate the con-
siderable economic advantage of us-
ing more efficient wall sections," Zack-
rison said. "This is particularly true
with the advent of air conditioning
and increased interest in electrical
heat. Within the Corps, we have con-
ducted several studies which show that
