Data on their organization's promotion programs were: William Kunze, Portland Cement Association; Richard Branham, National Concrete Masonry Association; Ken Gutschick, National Lime Association, and Les Barron, Vermiculite Institute. Following the initial remarks the film IT'S ALL IN THE WALL was premiered by the Vermiculite Institute. Questions from the floor regarding various aspects of promotion kept the panel busy right up to show time.
The opening session of the convention was gavelled to order Monday morning by President Lonie at 9:45 A.M. Following the presentation of the colors by the Marine Corps Color Guard, Reverend Mark G. Bergman, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, gave the invocation. Harold W. Peterson, Convention Chairman, welcomed the delegates to Chicago and briefed them on the many fine attractions and facilities that the city enjoys.
Monday morning's session was highlighted by the keynote address of Earl Nightingale, nationally famous radio, recording and platform personality. Mr. Nightingale's address entitled "Leading The Field" will be featured in a future issue of Masonry.
Of great interest to all was the vivid report presented by Walter Kunze on the Skopje, Yugoslavia earthquake. Mr. Kunze of Portland Cement Association was a member of a three man team who visited this area and his report of the disaster, both visual and oral, was outstanding.
Thomas F. Murpry, Secretary, Bricklayers, Masons & Plasterers International Union of America, then reviewed the various activities of that organization and presented views on topics of prime interest to the mason contractor.
Richard Otterson, Executive Director, Structural Clay Products Institute, then spoke on the "Change, Challenge and Cooperation".
Rounding out the program for Monday morning was the address by Hugh Murphy, Assistant Administrator, U. S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training, who discussed with the members training of bricklayers and the role of an effective program.
Tuesday mornings business session was opened with a prayer by Father
Henry J. Novak, St. Michael's Redemptorists Church. Dr. Carl S. Winters then gave the members a stimulating address. This was followed by the Pension Planning Panel which was moderated by Lee R. Polacheck, National Foundation of Health, Welfare & Pension Plans. Panel members were Claude Kordus, Hewitt Associates; Joseph Holme, President, Associated Masonry Contractors of Greater New York; Kenneth Keene, Aetna Life Insurance Co.; and Paul Rosens, Arizona Pension Trust. After each panel member had made his initial presentation, questions from the floor made this a lively session for approximately one hour.
At 1:30 P.M. President Lonie called the Annual Meeting of the MCAA to order. Reports from the various officers and committee chairmen were then heard. Constitution & By-Laws Committee Chairman T. Walter Klie (Continued on next page)
MCAA Lead Man Award
The Mason Contractors Association of America has established its Award. It will be called the "MCAA Lead Man Award" and will be presented to outstanding members

have contributed unselfishly to the advancement of the Mason Contractor Industry and the betterment of the Masonry Industry.
Recipient of the 1964 Award by unanimous action will be William F. Nelson, Washington, D. C. Mr. Nelson is Past President of MCAA and has been active in almost every field of operation, however, his efforts in jurisdictional matters for MCAA members show his untiring devotion to the members of this association. A time and date of the presentation will be announced by the Awards Committee later this month.
