has been promoted to Regional Manager in the Central District. Glenn E. David has been appointed Parts Manager.

Mrs. Betty Szabo, wife of Des Plaines mason contractor Joseph Szabo, was collecting autographs recently on a cast of her right ankle which she injured in a fall. Joe, alderman for Des Plaines, Ill., underwent surgery during the first part of January and is making a fast recovery. Arthur MacMahon has been named General Manager of the Main Factory Office of Newark Ladder Co.

One of the featured speakers at the January meeting of the Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee was Carl Roesser of Portland Cement Association who presented slides and narration of his recent trip through Europe. Celebrating their 19th wedding anniversary on January 8th were Mr. and Mrs. Pat Filippi, Oak Brook, III. Pat is a director of the Chicago Chapter. NAILI held a press conference on January 9th in Chicago to review the results of that organization's first ten months of operation.

Paul Johnson, Deputy Director of Structural Clay Products Research Foundation, recently returned from a two weeks' trip to inspect current research activities of French and British brick and tile manufacturers. Kwik Mix Co. has announced the appointment of Thor Stromsted to the newly created post of General Sales Manager. Prior to this appointment, Stromsted was Product Manager-Special Machinery. Walter Dickey, structural engineer, was the featured speaker at the recent Arizona Masonry Guild Informational Meeting. Meeting in Chicago during January 26-30 was Associated Equipment Distributors for their 45th annual Convention.

Indianapolis member Herschel Hunt's project at the Lilly Varnish Co. is featured in an ad in the Indiana Construction News. The Houston Chapter held their monthly meeting at Kaphan's Restaurant, Jan. 20th. Secretary of Labor W. Willard Wir has announced the appointment Charles R. Howell, New Jersey Commissioner of Banking & Insurance, as a member of the Dept.'s Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans. The C. C. Henriksen Co., Chicago, has again released their wonderful Hunting and Fishing Calendar. If you enjoy the sports this calendar is a must.

Louis J. Krabacher, formerly with Maxon Construction Co., is now associated with Lonie & Son, Inc., according to James Lonie, President, in the capacity of Vice President. Charles Danna, President, Associated Masonry Contractors of Texas, announced that there will be a meeting of the officers and Board of Directors of that organization on Saturday, Feb 1st. Hill Top Lakes, northwest of Normangee, Texas.

A recent issue of the Portland, Oregon, Daily Journal of Commerce had a wonderful write-up on MCAA Vice President E. Lyle Parsley. The article says, "This rider-of-the-range Parsley is the third generation of masons for his grandpappy was a bricklayer, and his father Forest also a bricklayer taught his E. Lyle the first arts of the trade."


MCAA Chapters Hold State Meeting in Moline

MOLINE, ILL. The annual State Meeting of the Illinois Chapters of the MCAA was held here on Saturday, January 18th, with State Vice President Frank Laureys, Barrington, III., presiding. Highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the report on Cleaning Clay Masonry by Corb Garton, Regional Director, Structural Clay Products Institute. Copies of the report are being made available to each Illinois member. A "Question & Answer" forum was also held during the morning session with many excellent ideas being developed. At the luncheon a film from Deere & Co. was featured. Immediately following the lunch the group went into executive session with Waldo Marolf, Quad-City Chapter, being selected the Vice President-elect for Illinois. Wayne Baum, Peoria Chapter, was elected Secretary for the State. Various details concerning the Annual Convention to be held in Chicago were reviewed. At the conclusion of the meeting Frank Laureys was given a standing ovation for the fine work that he has done as State Vice President. The meeting adjourned sine die with Vice President Laureys indicating that a caucus might be held while the convention was in session to study programs for the state, and to consider any problems or suggestion which any Illinois member might wish to present prior to the Annual Meeting.
