Board Meets

Three full days of business sessions highlighted the fall Executive Board Meeting of the MCAA held November 5-8 at the Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada.

On Wednesday afternoon members visited the construction project of John Yoxen where various material handling methods were viewed and a demonstration of grout pumping was held. Mr. Paul Thomas, Builders Equipment Co., Phoenix, Ariz., then presented a movie on his recently developed Block Panel Machine. Mr. Thomas explained in detail the various capabilities of his device and the potential market which could be captured by its use. A more complete story on this phase of the meeting will be presented in a future issue of MASONRY. "Colored Masonry Cement" was the topic of a presentation by Paul Reinhart, Medusa Portland Cement Co. Mr. Reinhart briefly discussed the manufacturing of this new product and then commented on the new markets that can be secured by effective use of this product.

Preceding the Executive Board meeting on Saturday morning the Board heard a panel discussion on "Western State Licensing Laws." Members of the panel were: Frank Scott, Member Nevada Licensing Commission, Paul Rosensteel, Phoenix Chapter Manager, and Ryan O'Brien, Los Angeles Mason Contractors Exchange. Each panel member briefly outlined the various facets of their particular state law and then the meeting was opened for questions. This session was highly valuable to the members for it brought to light many points of the laws that were not known.

In Executive Session the Board approved the Audit report of the Association for the fiscal year ending September 30th as presented by MCAA Treasurer, Frank Laureys. The Nominating Committee composed of Fred Daues, Herman May, James Lonie, Stephen Raimo and George Arconti met several times preceding the board meeting and presented a full slate of officers. The Board accepted the slate as presented. Members nominated will be contacted in writing and acceptance must be received within 10 days. The Membership

Committee headed by Harold W. Peterson reported 10 new applications for membership and they each were voted upon by the Board.

Various officer and Committee reports were heard and required actions were taken.

It was announced that a new International Agreement had been consummated, the International Hod Carriers', Building and Common Laborers' Union of America, AFL-CIO, and that as soon as copies were available each member of the Association would receive one.

The Board held their annual Golf Tournament at the Tropicana Golf Club and winner of the match was Robert Harrison, Mt. Prospect, Illinois, with a net total of 70.
