WILLIAM F. NELSON
William F. Nelson, one of the nation's outstanding mason contractors, died on Thursday, September 3 in Washington, D. C. Mr. Nelson will long be remembered by his host of friends for his genial personality and work to improve and uplift the mason contracting industry.
Mr. Nelson has served as President of the Mason Contracting Association of America for two years, 1952-1953, and during his term as its leader many of the progressive programs currently in effect were initiated. He gave generously of his time to all phases of the Construction Industry. He was active in the Apprentice Training Program in Washington, D. C., was Past President of the Washington, D. C. Building Congress, Past President of the Mason Contractors Association of Washington, D. C., and served the MCAA, since his presidency, as representative of this organization on the National Joint Board for Settlement of Jurisdictional Disputes. The high esteem in which he was held by the members of this Association was evidenced by his being selected, earlier this year, as the recipient of the organization's highest commendation The Lead Man Award.
One of Bill's most cherished projects was that of the Kiwanis Crippled Children's program and the Kiwanis Foundation of Washington, D. C. In addition he was active in the United Givers Fund for that area.
He gave freely of his time to assist all. He ably represented this Association in many of its undertakings and with his patient understanding gained the respect both of management and labor. The MCAA and the Masonry Industry has indeed lost one of its most respected and devoted supporters.
