Get well wishes to Frank Zoubek and N. "Bill" Bennett. Frank is MCAA's Past Treasurer from Kenosha, Wisconsin, while Bill is with Muller Machinery Co. Our thanks to Ted Daues and Robert Harrison for their efforts in making the Mason Estimating Course in St. Louis so successful. Our congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. William R. Conners on their 42nd Wedding Anniversary which they celebrated during the early part of October. Herschel Hunt, MCAA's "Mr. Apprentice" did another outstanding job at the North Central States Apprenticeship Conference held in Indianapolis during the latter part of October. For a real fine pre-apprentice course, Indianapolis has one of the best. Retired Naval Captain Edmond John Newbold has been named executive secretary of the National Association of Distributors & Dealers of Structural Clay Products.

Our thanks to Jim Neville for his contribution of ASTM specification booklet covering face brick, common brick and mortar to a majority of architects and contractors in the five-state mid-west area. An informed person always is an asset to the industry. Recently added to ASTM Committee C-15 membership is George Verder. Chairman of the Committee is K. B. Biberstein, The Catholic University, Washington, D.C. SCPI Tech Note No. 21A covers Brick & Tile Cavity Walls.

The 15th Annual Ohio State Apprenticeship Conference was held in Dayton, Ohio, Oct. 26-28. The National Roofing Contractors Association will hold their annual Convention Jan. 30th Feb. 3rd, at the Marriott Motor Hotel, Atlanta, Ga. An associate member of the Minneapolis Chapter is Eugene O. Goeb, Huron Portland Cement Co.

Frank Jennings, Essick Mfg. Co., is making a fast recovery from a recent illness. Co-chairman of the Masonry section of the Ohio State Apprenticeship (continued on page 20)


TEXAS ELECTS PREWITT PRESIDENT

MCALLEN, TEXAS Claude Prewitt, Dallas, has been elected President of the Associated Masonry Contractors of Texas. He succeeds Robert Fenimore, Ft. Worth. Other officers elected are W. W. Bartlett, Houston, Vice President and Jim Reynolds, Dallas, Secretary-Treasurer. San Antonio, Texas will be the site of the '66 Annual Meeting.


CHANGE OF TITLE

WASHINGTON, D.C. The Executive Council of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, on September 20, 1965, officially approved a change in the title of the International Hod Carriers', Building & Common Laborers' Union of America to Laborers' International Union of North America AFL-CIO.


HONOR R. E. BARNES
Richard E. Barnes, Managing Director of Perlite Institute, Inc., was honored at a testimonial luncheon attended by over 600 association executives at the majestic Greenbrier Hotel located at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Barnes received the Grand Award in Management Achievement for his efforts in developing and marketing silicone treated perlite. This new building product is a water repellent loose fill insulation for concrete block and cavity type masonry walls.

The occasion was the 46th Annual Convention of the American Society of Association Executives. Under the direction of the Society's Award Board of Trustees, a national committee composed of a distinguished 5 member Jury of Awards, together with 11 professional association executives, made the selections.

The theme of the meeting which was held at McAllen was "The Promotion of the Masonry Industry." Speakers were D. O. Tomlin, President of the Structural Clay Products Association of the Southwest; Sam Dixon, Executive Secretary, Portland Cement Association; and Joseph Marasek, Representative, B.M.&P.I.U. Each of the above speakers gave his Industry's views on the main topic of promotion.

During the business session the Buyers Guide was discussed and its distribution to various Texas cities reviewed. Main items of business were the adoption of a resolution that established a committee to initiate and pursue the organization of an industry-wide promotional program and a motion that the State participate in the Joint Apprenticeship Training Program.

The program planning was under the direction of C. DeWitt Drown, Jr., MCAA Regional Vice President.


Koehring Dividend
The Board of Directors of Koehring Company today announced that regular quarterly dividends would be paid on its common stock and both issues of preferred stock.

Holders of Koehring Common Stock of record November 8 will be paid 40c on November 30. Dividends of 684c per share will be paid December 30 to Series D Preferred stockholders of record December 15. Series E Preferred stockholders of record December 15 will be paid 42c per share on December 30.
