TIMELY WARNING
Since credit cards are now so widely used, you may wish to pass along this timely warning to others in your organization. Despite all the safeguards devised by the various companies that issue credit cards, there is still risk involved for the careless credit card holder. Failure to notify the issuing company promptly when a credit card is lost could, according to a recent court ruling, cost the holder dearly. There is actually a black market in stolen cards. Best legal advice says: (1) Do not accept cards in the mail you didn't ask for. (2) Handle credit cards as carefully as cash. (3) Be sure your credit card is returned to you after each use. (4) Don't lend it. (5) Get receipts and keep them to check monthly statements. (6) Always report a lost card immediately in writing.
Re-Schedule All-Weather Conference
CHICAGO, ILL. The All-Weather Conference, originally scheduled for September 24 in Chicago, has been re-scheduled for October 15 in order to secure suitable accommodations for the panel participants and the many people who will be attending the meeting.
The purpose of the Conference is to investigate ways and means through which mason contractors can work longer during adverse weather conditions, both hot and cold. In charge of the meeting will be MCAA Research Committee Chairman Jim Snyder, Southfield, Mich. Snyder has announced that Corb Garton, Regional Director of Structural Clay Products Institute, will be the panel moderator. Accepting invitations to be on he panel, sor far, are Eugene George of George & Asmussen, Kichener, Ontario, Canada, W. E. Dickinson, President of Calcium Chloride Institute, Washington, D.C., Keith Bohlig of Portland Cement Association, Chicago, Illinois, and Jack Cook of Cook & Pruitt, Miami, Florida.
Along with the panel members the Association is inviting other industry leaders of related products and services so that they may be in attendance to participate in resolving many of the problems which confront contractors when they are working under adverse weather conditions.
The place of the meeting is the O'Hare Sahara Inn, 3939 North Mannheim Road, Schiller Park, III. The meeting will start on Friday, October 15, at 9:30 A.M., and continue through the afternoon until all business facing the Conference has been completed.
Elect Mason Painter Tennessee State Chairman
MEMPHIS, TENN. The 13th Annual Convention the Tennessee Chapters of the MCAA was held on ugust 26-28, at the Chisca Plaza Motor Inn. Highlights the business meetings were presentations by Jack Carey, Mississippi-Louisiana Brick & Tile Mfg. Assoc., on Cleaning Clay Products" and the election of Mason Painter, Chattanooga, as the State Chairman-elect for Tennessee. Walter Lerch was elected State Secretary.
At the Friday morning session, the film "Clay Craftsmanship" produced by the Allied Masonry Council was shown. In addition Herman Sowell explained the Memphis Chapters' Awards Program which has been so successful during the past few years in creating a better atmosphere for masonry construction.
The Annual Golf Tournament was held on the beautiful Colonial Country Club course. Although it was a rather damp day, the contest was rather heated and the scores extremely close. Winning the low gross trophy was (continued on page 34)
