MILWAUKEE PICNIC DATES
MILWAUKEE, WIS. President Robert Tubesing of the Milwaukee Chapter has announced that the Annual Picnic will be held on Saturday, June 26th with John Rohatsch the Outing Chairman.


Accept Five New Members
DENVER, COLORADO Les Osborne, President of the Colorado Mason Contractors Association reports that his Chapter has recently accepted five new contractor members and two associate members. New members are: Louis J. Helbert; W. H. Forsythe, Cowan Construction Co.; Ralph Soderberg; and A. B. & Β. Masonry, Inc. headed by Paul and Leonard Bangford and Donald Ahrenholz. Norman Eartherton has rejoined the Chapter.

New Associate Members are Rocky Mountain Cement Co. and the Lakewood Brick & Tile Co.


Plan Midsummer Picnic
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. R. J. Hendershoot, Executive Secretary of the Minneapolis Chapter has announced that the Annual Midsummer Picnic will be held on July 18th. Karl David will be Chairman of the event.

NEW ASTM SPEC. MEETING
CHICAGO, ILL. "Understanding The New ASTM Specifications For Concrete Masonry" was the topic of a seminar presented by the Concrete Masonry Association of Illinois on Tuesday, May 18th, at the Engineering Building. Henry Toennies, Director of Engineering, NCMA, Washington, D. C., was the featured speaker with a panel discussion ion following. Panel members were: William Loewer, PCA; Edward Schroeder, C. F. Murphy & Associates; Edward McGuire, Ceisel & McGuire; Clyde Stewart, Illinois Brick Co.; and Gordon J. Stepanek, Executive Secretary, CMAI.

The first major changes in concrete masonry specifications since 1938 are now in effect.


Distribute Memphis Masonry Guide
MEMPHIS, TENN. After two years of hard work the Mason Contractors Association of Memphis has produced and distributed to architectural firms in the major Memphis area a valuable 130 page Masonry Guide. Included are Estimated Wall Cost tables, Ultimate Cost Study, Building Codes, Size and Related Information, and color photographs of some of the more beautiful masonry buildings completed in the area by MCAA Members.

The Associated Press recently reported that a 25-year old Havana bricklayer was recently honored by the Castro government. Announcements from there indicate that Rafae Cuevas laid 2,190 brick in four hours and built 14 small brick homes in a month. The title of "Colossus of the Brick" was bestowed upon him.


In Memoriam
Jesse A. Higgins, retired Managing Director of Allied Construction Industries, died at his home of a heart attack on the evening of March 6, 1965. He was 72 years of age.

Private funeral services were held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia on Thursday, March 11.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jean Dailey Higgins, 2745 Madison Road, Apartment 35, Cincinnati 8, Ohio: twin daughters, Mrs. John D. Field, Cincinnati, and Mrs. Robert W. Cook, Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Robby and Beverly Cook of Pittsburgh; and two sisters, Mrs. William R. Talbott, Rockville, Maryland and Mrs. Peter J. Murdock, Washington, D.C.

Jesse had served the construction industry for more than 42 years as a trade association executive. He was instrumental in the founding of Allied Construction Industries and became its first Managing Director on March 28, 1929. He served in this position until his retirement on December 31, 1962 and from that date until his death as consultant.
