CMAI Builds Fair Ground Display
The Concrete Masonry Association of Illinois has made a worthwhile contribution to the Illinois State Fair Grounds, Springfield, III. by building a rest area for visitors. Bill Loewer, PCA, drew the plans while Norman Anderson and Ernie Pent, Huron Portland Cement Co. did the masonry work. The masonry units, patio slabs and benches were supplied by Ampress Brick Co., Des Plaines, III. Hale Olson, Ampress Brick Co., coordinated the work and provided an attractive plaque which identifies the CMAI for this effort. The many weary visitors to the Fair will long thank the organization for their contribution.

Introduce Microfilm Library
Showcase Corporation, Detroit-based visual communications firm, has introduced a microfilm library designed to help the nation's construction industry overcome a mounting paperwork burden.
Developed after ten years of research, the microfilm library provides for the reduction, storage, and instant retrieval of specific information which might otherwise take hours and even days to find using conventional office methods.
Showcase Corporation resulted from a merger in August, 1967 with Showcase National Corporation. Robert B. Evans, Detroit industrialist, was named chairman of the new company, Mildred Puddington was named president, Soteris Lazaris, vice president, and Frank Donovan, secretary.
"Designers, architects, builders, engineers, contractors and building owners have expressed a great interest in our microfilm library," said Mrs. Puddington.
"More than 5,000 manufacturers now serve the $75 billion construction industry. The top 3,000 alone put out nearly 300,000 sheets of literature each year-a tremendous burden of paper for architects and engineers to wade through.
"The new microfilm library not only will provide instant recovery of the material but will also sharply reduce the space required for its storage. More than 20 filing cabinets of industry literature have been reduced to the microfilm cartridge library that can fit in a ladies hatbox."
There are 30,000 registered architects and 40,000 engineers among the 200,000 potential users of the library, Mrs. Puddington said.
The microfilm library will be marketed through 239 Showcase Centers located in the United States and Canada. Eight of the centers will be owned and operated by Showcase Corporation. The remaining 231 will be franchised. Many of the initial centers will be located in Hilton Hotels.
ECONO-LOK® for composite masonry walls.
Stronger masonry walls and easier construction with AA quality reinforcing!
Drying shrinkage produces tensile stresses in masonry walls. AA ties restrain drying shrinkage and subsequent cracking where it occurs. Blok-Lok, Tri-Lok, and Econo-Lok are engineered by AA Wire to provide the best possible reinforcing for masonry walls. All are "Flush welded"-proven strongest. Let AA solve your special wire problems.
Manufactured in Chicago, Dallas and Ontario, Canada.
