All-Weather Construction - Can it be a reality?
What can the Mason Contractor do to alert himself in seeking the great potential that lies with All-Weather Construction?
What tools are already available to the contractor for his use in increasing his work schedule?
How can the various manufacturers aid in bringing about a longer construction year?
These are just a few of the many questions that were posed at the recent All-Weather Conference held at the Sherman Hotel, Chicago. During the meeting leading mason contractors from various sections of the country reviewed with industry representatives the varied aspects of construction under adverse weather conditions both hot and cold.
M. A. Allen, Director of Research, Structural Clay Products Institute, gave a preview report of recent research in the field of cold weather masonry. The basic area of the preliminary study was the effect of freezing on clay masonry wall construction. The studies involved different periods of exposure to freezing temperatures of masonry walls which had varying amounts of curing time before the freezing. Because the work was strictly of a preliminary nature, much more research will be required before meaningful results can be published.
Mr. Allen stated that this cold weather research was a part of an over-all program in SCPI planned to better utilize all available manpower in the masonry industry. The new facilities at McLean, Virginia, for research were described by Mr. Allen, and he gave a brief resume of other important research to be conducted at (Please turn page)
