Schedule Tri-State Meeting
Members of Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama will join this year in holding their first Tri-State Meeting at the Grove Park Inn, Ashville, North Carolina. Meeting Chairman, Allen Young has announced that the meeting will be held on June 29, 30 and July 1 and a full business agenda has been arranged. Phoenix Apprentice Contest
PHOENIX, ARIZ. Cooperative civic efforts always produce excellent public relations. An outstanding example of this was the recent Phoenix Bricklayer Apprentice Contest. The Joint Apprentice Committee with the cooperation of the Industry held the contest at the site of the new Tempe Boy's Club so that the time and effort of all could be converted to constructive work for the community. The apprentice contest consisted of the erection of brick panels between poured in place concrete columns, to scaffold height. The walls will be completed by other bricklayers contributing their time. Mike & Kemper Goodwin, A.I.A. Architects, contributed the building design. Phoenix Brick Yard and Superlite Builders Supply Co. respectively contributed the brick and block units. Arizona Portland Cement Co. contributed the mortar cement.
Brooks Billings, Apprentice Coordinator directed the entire contest. Judges were: Johnny Avechuco, Masonry Contractor; Mike Goodwin, Architect and Ed Davies, Bricklayer.
New SCPI Regional Office
Structural Clay Products Institute, Region 18, has announced the relocation of its regional headquarters from Wichita, to Kansas City, Kansas. Effective immediately, the new address will be: Suite 365, 745 State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. The telephone number is DRexel 1-7474. Area Code 913.

Announce MCAA Committee Members
President Anthony Perri has announced that MCAA Committees have now been fully organized. He has called on each of the various Committee Chairmen to meet at the earliest possible date so that constructive programs can be undertaken during the year. Paul Keatinge Retires
Paul F. Keatinge, Vice President White Cement Sales, General Portland Cement Company, has announced his retirement from the Company effective August 1, 1967. His future plans are indefinite. Keatinge came to General, formerly Trinity Portland Cement Company, in 1940 to establish that Company in the white cement business. He had been Manager of the (Continued on page 27)
Hold Bearing Wall Seminar
Under the sponsorship of the Concrete Masonry Association of Illinois a seminar on Concrete Masonry Bearing Walls was held on Thursday evening, May 11th, at the Palmer House, Chicago, III.
Featured speakers for the evening were John Mock and Kevin Callahan. Mr. Mock of the firm of Hendrick & Mock, San Diego, Calif., designed the 8-story, 207-unit Hanalei Hotel addition which used concrete masonry walls and precast lift-on-slab concrete floors. Mr. Callahan, Engineer, National Concrete Masonry Association discussed a variety of structures that have been constructed of concrete masonry.
Moderator for the evening was Hale Olson, President, Concrete Masonry Association of Illinois.
