MCAA Schedule International Conference
The preliminary program for The University of Texas International Conference on Masonry Structural Systems, to be held in Austin November 30-December 2, 1967, lists 43 papers by authors from 10 nations. Ultimately the conference is expected to present more than 50 papers and to attract 500 architects, engineers, academicians, and industrialists from 15 nations in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Travel grants are now being made to a score of persons around the world.
Ten conference sessions will cover masonry's creative challenge, materials science, structural performance, interaction of structural elements, environmental performance characteristics, design methodology, case studies, and construction. The conference is being conducted by the College of Engineering under a grant from the National Science Foundation and with financial support from the Clay Products Association of the Southwest. New Facing Tile Design
A completely modern and functional approach to the use of ceramic glazed structural facing tile has been announced by the Facing Tile Institute. This organization is made up of companies responsible for approximately 80% of all U.S. glazed ware production.
According to Facing Tile Institute's president, John A. Stelle, "Triple S Design, as our new plan is called, is the first really new approach to the use of facing tile in decades. It offers simplicity in design... service in construction and savings in time and money."

Clipper Elects Martinoni
Norton Company of Worcester, Massachusetts, has announced that Mr. Jacques G. Martinoni has been elected President and Chief Executive Officer of the Clipper Manufacturing Company, Inc. Mr. Neligh Coates, Sr. has been appointed Chairman of the Board.
Mr. Martinoni joined Clipper as a salesman for their French subsidiary in 1949. Later he was named Manager of Clipper France, and in 1956 became manager of Clipper's five European plants. He was named Vice President in charge of Foreign Operations and elected a director in 1964.

Utah Legislation
With unanimous passage through both chambers of the Utah Legislature, House Bill 69 now goes to the governor for signing into law.
HB 69, sponsored by Reps. Halvorsen, Theurer and Wilkinson would require contractors to obtain a Utah license before bidding on jobs in the state.
AIA Honors Five Architects
Five distinguished architects of as many foreign countries have been elected Honorary Fellows of The American Institute of Architects.
They are Alfred V. Alvares of Hong Kong, Viscount Esher of England, Charles Fowler of Canada, Junzo Sakakura of Japan and Karl Schwanzer of Austria.
The new Honorary Fellows will be invested during the 1967 AIA convention which will take place in New York City May 14-18. Only 126 other architects currently hold the title of Honorary Fellow of the 19,000-member professional organization.
PCA Names W. E. Swanson
W. E. "Wally" Swanson has been named manager of the Contractors Section, Allied Industries Department, of the Portland Cement Association, Chicago. Before joining PCA, he was vice president and general manager of Roberts Construction Co., Lincoln, Neb.
In his new position, Swanson will be responsible for liaison and national cooperative programs with contractor organizations in all fields of cement and concrete use.
Swanson's experience includes two years with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, nine years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, four years with Gibbons and Reed Co., and four years as engineer and special representative for PCA on the West Coast.
While with Roberts Construction Co., Swanson helped pioneer the use of the slip-form paver on interstate highways and turnpikes in several western states.
