MEMPHIS CHAPTER EXHIBITS AT AIA MEET
At the recent American Institute of Architects Gulf States Regional Convention in Memphis, one of the most popular booths was that of the Mason Contractors of Memphis. Shown in the booth are (from left) Herman Sowell, MCAM secretary-treasurer: Miss Pam Moss, booth hostess; and Allen Young, MCAA vice president and MCAM president. Herman holds bowl containing valuable diamond stickpin given as booth prize; it was awarded to Dan Cowling of Little Rock, AIA regional director. Miss Moss displays special MCAM issue of her father's trade newspaper, Construction Times, giving details of association's Tenth Annual Awards Dinner. Allen holds razor ("Shave Your Cost With Masonry") given to each architect registering at booth; almost 100% of the architects attending signed in at the booth-apparently more than at any booth of the record 83-booth exhibition, Screen at left of booth offered a continuous showing of color slides of work performed by MCAM members. Lamp at right had a base made of brick. On table at left are new asphalt block and asphalt brick. All-brick table made especially for display at booth attracted much attention from architects; it's now in use in backyard patio of Allen Young's residence. Sarabond was used as an additive in mortar, with no reinforcing used in construction of the table.

Presents Research Library
Max Wysong, president of Peninsula Asphalt Company, presented a complete research library dealing with cement and concrete and valued at $150 each to the Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City High School and Traverse City Public Library.
Each library consisted of three 12 x 18 periodical sleeves containing over fifty separate publications. Included are publications explaining the step-by-step manufacture of cement; methods of placing cement; architectural and construction techniques for cement utilization both for structures and for flatwork (highways, patios, etc.).
Material for the reference libraries was arranged as a result of technical research by The Aetna Portland Cement Company, in affiliation with the Portland Cement Association.
