Money Talks Podner!
$1000 Reward. For The West's Sax Wanted Brick! PORT COSTA
Bruce Johnston, General Sales Manager of Port Costa Products Company has found another way to prove that "money talks podner"! The idea takes shape in this giant $1000 Reward board which offers prizes to those who can guess which six Port Costa brick qualify as the "West's Six Most Wanted Brick." Lovely Joan Sonnefeld, Port Costa's girl Friday is pictured here with the big 6' x 8 board featuring 12 different brick and drawings of comical "desperados" hiding behind them. Each desperado is appropriately named to indicate a brick color. Typical are "Pepe el chocolate," "Little Fawn" and "Willie White." Miss Sonnefeld and the Reward Board represented Port Costa during the October A.L.A. Convention at the Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco. Port Costa's current $1000 Reward Contest offers an opportunity to win a trip to Las Vegas for two, a portrait by a famous artist or other prizes.
Three-Hour Fire Rating
(continued from page 35) consisting of two wythes of brick each three inches in thickness separated by a two-inch air space. The loading condition the report says ". is equivalent to a wall loading of 3,600 pounds per foot of wall applied with an eccentricity of 1.5 inches toward the exposed face." Such loading is representative of the type encountered in exterior, loadbearing, brick masonry walls. During the three hour and eight minute test, the wall was exposed to temperatures which reached 1935°F. Immediately after the fire test and while still under load a water fire host (45 psi) was applied to the hot wall for more than five minutes. When the wall had cooled, it sustained a load of 7,200 lbs. per foot of wall, or double that supported during the fire test.
The University of California report concludes, "This brick cavity wall system exceeded all the requirements of the American Society for Testing and Materials Designation E 119, Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials, for a 3-hour fire and hose stream rating as a loadbearing wall."

By Walter T. Derk
MCAA Insurance Consultant
This month Masonry is pleased to introduce a new column to its readers. Much has been written about insurance but many times the specific question which you would like answered is not covered. Readers are invited to submit questions on any insurance matter. While all may not be answered via this column, every question submitted will be studied and answered by Mr. Derk personally.
Question:
Does the MCAA Accident Insurance pay benefits in addition to any other insurance I may have in force?
Answer:
Yes, indeed.
Question:
Is it like a travel accident policy?
Answer:
Yes, but it goes much further in covering all accidents 24 hours a day. MCAA's program includes, but is not limited to travel accident.
Question:
Are there any age limitations?
Answer:
Yes. MCAA members, officers, partners, and salaried employees are eligible to participate in full to age 70. Thereafter, coverage is limited to $1,000 for the principal who may be over 70 at $1.50 annual premium. Wives are also accepted to age 70. Dependent children are eligible from age 3 months to 19 years, to 23 years if attending a qualified institute of learning while still dependent upon the insured.
Question:
Does the MCAA Group Accident Insurance apply to someone piloting his own plane?
Answer:
As much as we would like to say yes, that key word, "Group", explains why the answer must be no.
While the MCAA Policy is very broad and certainly applicable to the vast majority of us who board aircraft, it does not cover accidents while operating any aircraft or acting as a crew member.
Pilots generally tend to be justifi(Continued on page 52)
