MCAA Masonry Course Tops 1,000 Enrollments
A long-standing goal was achieved by the Mason Contractors Association of America's Management Institute when the enrollment for its Masonry Estimating Course surpassed the 1,000 mark.
The two-day session at the Executive International Inn, St. Louis, Mo., September 26-27, the 20th in the association's continuing education program, was attended by 49 representatives of masonry contracting firms from seven states in the Midwest. A total of 962 had previously attended the course, which originally was introduced in October, 1965.
The program is the development of the MCAA Management Institute's Education Committee. Said Robert Harrison, Mt. Prospect, III., chairman: "The enrollment of our 1,000th contractor in the Masonry Estimating Course represents the outstanding achievement of the Education Committee and one of the major accomplishments of the MCAA in its 20-year history."
Harrison was recently selected by the MCAA's Executive Committee as the association's outstanding committee chairman.

Baltimore Apprentice Plan
The Baltimore Area Joint Apprenticeship Committee has made several very significant changes and advancements in their local program. Knowing the need for well trained apprentices, they have gone into the Vocational Training Schools and solicited apprentice applicants. Those applicants who have met their standards have been given up to six month credit towards their apprenticeship depending upon their qualifications. To-date they have indentured five young men from the Vocational High School Program and they are receiving credit.
The Coordinator for the Program is now serving on the Training Committee for Vocational Schools in Baltimore, so he can inform the group of the basic needs for pre-apprentice training in the city's schools.
