FRED DAUES RECEIVES LEAD MAN AWARD
# New Lime Brochure
The National Lime Association has published a colorful 12 page brochure entitled "LIME-The Oldest Proven Mortar Material For Durable Watertight Masonry." The publication outlines the numerous advantages of using hydrated lime in mortar, such as improving workability and bond, as well as providing resilience, weather resistance, autogenous healing, and economy. Included are sections on why architects specify lime, why contractors use lime, and why owners want lime. Information is also presented on the importance of lime in exterior plaster (stucco). # Appoint Harrison
Keith W. Harrison has been appointed Executive Vice President-Marketing of W. R. Grace & Co.'s Construction Products Division according to an announcement by Rodney M. Vining, President.
Harrison assumes responsibility for marketing operations in the division whose major product lines are "Zonolite" and "Dyfoam" insulation, fireproofing, and other building materials; "Darex" concrete admixtures and cement mill additives; Horn sealants, adhesives, waterproofings and (Continued on page 25)
Fred Daues, MCAA Past President, was honored by the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis and MCAA at the July 15th meeting of the Chapter.

Allen Young, MCAA Vice President, presented Mr. Daues with the Association's Lead Man Award for his outstanding service to the entire Masonry Industry. Telegrams from all MCAA Past Presidents were read along with congratulatory messages from leaders in the Industry. A capacity crowd attended the presentation which was held at the local Chapters headquarters.
Mr. Daues has devoted much time and effort in developing and promoting the programs of the Industry having served MCAA as President and in other capacities. Currently he is Chairman of the Liaison Committee and member of the Nominating Committee. He has also served his local Chapter as President.
# Apprentice Facts
Industry responded to the need for more skilled workers in 1968 by registering a record 103,000 new apprentices, according to Secretary of Labor George P. Shultz.
The Secretary warned, however, that "industry is still not producing the number of skilled workers needed to match economic growth."
He said the registrations were almost 6,000 more than recorded in 1967. But the system certified only 33,700 completions, a 9 percent drop, "at a time when skilled workers were in great demand."
