The immediate and overall impression that the visitor receives from this building is one of welcome and warmth - a most valuable quality for an elementary school. This feeling is first evidenced in the positively handled entrance and continues into the pleasant open and friendly interior, particularly in the library area. Overall, the judges considered this a "very competent and pleasant building."

This is a school which has been designed with sensitivity in its scale, forms, details, materials and colors to produce the immediate impact on the visitor that it is a building for children. The exterior massing recalls the forms of the neighboring houses in a pleasing way, the shapes growing out of the ground and appearing to develop naturally and effectively from the plan and room shapes. Of particular interest is the front entrance, which forms a pleasant gathering place with the warmth of its brick paving.
