MCA of Chicago Holds Annual Smoker
WGN radio personality Wally Phillips was the headline speaker at the Annual Smoker of the Mason Contractors Association of Greater Chicago, April 24, in the Fontane D'or. M-F Appoints Askins
William J. Askins, a veteran of nearly 20 years in engineering management, has been appointed director of engineering-industrial & construction machinery, for Massey Ferguson Inc., Akron, Ohio. The announcement was made by J. D. Goodson, executive vice president and general manager-Industrial & Construction Machinery.
Askins, who has served as chief engineer since 1966, will direct all engineering activities for MF's rapidly-expanding industrial and construction machinery lines in both the U.S. and Canada.
Prior to joining MF, he was associated with International Harvester's Hough Division from 1956-1966 as a design engineer, project engineer, and finally as assistant chief engineer. Askins previously was associated with Soreng Products Inc. as a project engineer and Nadherny Engineers as a consulting engineer.
A native of River Forest, III., he earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, and took advanced study at the Industrial Management Institute of Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Ill.

Jack A. Warshaw has been named Assistant Administrator for Field Operations in the Department's Labor-Management Services Administration. Rinker Materials has announced that Richard Lemon has been named Plant Manager for its LeJeune plant.

CIAC Hits Inequities
The Construction Industry Affairs Committee of Chicago has called for an end to the "disruptive" practice of establishing unrealistic completion schedules for construction projects.
In a sharply worded recommendation, the committee said that unrealistic completion schedules have "disrupted the economy and the availability of labor in the local area." and ultimately have had a "detrimental effect on the entire construction industry and the national economy."
The CIAC comprises construction industry leaders representing the American Institute of Architects, Chicago Chapter; the Builders Association of Chicago, Inc.; Mechanical Specialty Contractors Associations; Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois, and the Construction Specifications Institute, Chicago Chapter.
Clipper Award to Wirt
The Norton Company's Construction Products Division, manufacturers of Clipper brand masonry and concrete sawing equipment, has named Harry Wirt as "Clipper Branch Manager of the Year."
He and his wife, Barbara, were honored at a "Distinguished Salesmen's Award Dinner," at which he was presented the coveted "Victory Trophy" by the Kansas City Chapter of Sales/Marketing Executives, Inc.
Wirt, a veteran of the U.S. Army, attended Kent State University, leaving to work as a commercial photographer. He was hired by Clipper Manufacturing Co. in 1954 as a warehouseman and was promoted to Office Manager, Cleveland Region, in 1958. In October, 1966, he was promoted to Cleveland branch manager.
