Coral-cutting Chain Saw
Would you believe a chain saw that cuts coral?
Chain saws, usually associated with wood cutting, are being used in the West Indies to slice building bricks from coral quarries.
The coral, thrust from the sea onto land eons ago, is cut into 1-foot by 2-feet by 6-inch bricks and then shipped to construction sites.
According to Omark Industries, manufacturer of Oregon cutting chain, several quarries in the Caribbean islands have found chain saws almost indispensable to their task.
After buying chain, quarries alter cutter shapes and sizes to suit their requirements, but Omark expects to introduce a chain which is tailor-made for all coral quarry industry needs, according to company engineers.
PCA Expands Services
The Portland Cement Association has reorganized its audio-visual production facilities to offer wider and more creative services to the cement and concrete industry on a contract basis, according to James H. Hurley, director of marketing communications.
A new Audio-Visual Communications Section will combine the motion picture production and still photography functions of the former Photographic Services Section. The Association now offers 110 sound-motion pictures available for purchase or rental, a half million feet of stock footage, and some 280,000 black-and-white photos and color slides dealing with all aspects of cement manufacture and concrete construction.
The reason some people don't recognize opportunity is because it usually comes disguised as hard work.
