An over-all view showing the interested crowds that jammed the '71 MCAA Educational Trade Show in the Exhibit Hall at the Shamrock-Hilton Hotel, held in conjunction with MCAA's 21st Annual Convention in Houston.
The business side of the convention began with the MCAA Executive Board Meeting on Saturday morning, February 6. At 4 o'clock that afternoon, a one-hour President's Reception was held, highlighted by entertainment by the "Future Faces," a youthful singing and musical aggregation.
"Mickey" Soloff, left, presents to Allen Young his officer's pin for serving as MCAA President during the past year. Young reciprocates by presenting the Vice President's pin to Soloff.
Following the reception, the Educational Trade Show was formally opened in the Exhibit Hall and ran for three days. As in past years, attendance was excellent, giving both new and veteran mason contractors the opportunity to discuss first-hand their equipment needs with many of the nation's leading manufacturers and suppliers.
Sunday's activities began at 1:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom with the MCAA Management Institute. The slate of speakers included Richard Snow, Executive Director of Industry Promotion, Allied Construction Employers Association, Milwaukee, who expanded on the convention theme of "Make Money Move in "71"; Dallas Grenley, Research Chemist with Dow Chemical Company, Midland, Mich., who presented an illustrated discussion of new concepts in masonry construction; and Donald Bidwell, Charles Velardo, and Thomas F. Murphy, President of BM & PIU, who participated in the "International Masonry Institute Presents" program.
David Soloff, session moderator, facetiously termed the IMI program as "The Don & Charley Show." Speakers Bidwell and Velardo enjoyed the good-natured ribbing and responded with many constructive remarks about the operation of the promotion trust. Tom Murphy
