The Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis recently installed its officers for 1971 at a dinner-dance in the Three Flags Restaurant, St. Charles. The new slate includes: Harold Maisak, president; Don Leonard, vice president: Jim Fell, secretary, and Harry Gillick, treasurer.
IN MEMORIAM
Joseph Holme, outstanding masonry industry representative in New York City, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, in New York City. He was prominent in the affairs of the mason contracting industry and had just retired as president of the Associated Brick Mason Contractors of Greater New York, Inc., a post held since 1954.
In MCAA Mr. Holme served as State Chairman and chairman of many of its committees, as well as being a featured speaker during several of the annual conventions. Mr. Holme was an avid supporter of MCAA programs and will be greatly missed by the Association and all those in the masonry industry.
Portland Mason Trades Committee Holds Breakfast
The Portland (Ore.) Area Mason Trades Joint Committee annually hosts a breakfast for apprentice bricklayers, mason contractors employing apprentices, their instructors, state and federal apprentice officials, and friends of the masonry industry. Pictured here are those attending the 13th annual breakfast, which featured a construction film, a speaker from the state game and fish commission, and a review of this year's apprentice activities by the chairman of the trades committee. Ray F. Wimer of the Oregon Masonry Guild has arranged the programs and served as master of ceremonies since their inception in 1958.
MCAM Elects Cook
The Mason Contractors Association of Memphis has elected Bob Cook president for 1971. Others elected were John Gardner, vice president, and Rivers Young, secretary-treasurer.
One of the first items of business conducted by the new officers was the mailing of Masonry magazine to architects and engineers in the Memphis area as a means of promoting masonry construction. The officers also announced that the MCAM has renewed for another year the Walk Jones-George Mahan Scholarship for Architecture.

Making a speedy recovery after a recent illness is Rudy Rakoci, Hinsdale, III. Rudy is Past President of the DuPage County MCAA Chapter. R. Sandy Hallman has been cited for his contribution to the construction industry by the editors of Engineering News-Record. He was nominated for his work with the North Texas Contractors Association.
Clayford T. Grimm has resigned as Executive Director of the Clay Products Association of the Southwest to accept a position on the faculty in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. Making a fast recovery after giving everyone quite a scare at the Houston Convention is Peter Baier. Pete arrived back in Chicago on Saturday following the meeting and is at home R.R. #2, Hobart, Indiana. He'd like to hear from you.
James P. Brady has been named Regional Manager for International Harvester Company's line of industrial equipment....Michael E. Deitsch has been promoted to Manager of Sales Promotion, Merchandising Sales for the Carborundum Co. For their Feb. 16th program the Colorado Mason Contractors heard Don Wakefield discuss the various new sized brick units and their use in thin-wall load (Continued on page 20)
