These classes are designed to give the brick salesman a better knowledge of his product and an understanding of the technological advancements of the product.

The 5th class of the Advanced Course will be conducted March 29-April 2, 1971.

All courses will be taught at the SCPI Building headquartered in McLean, Virginia. Enrollment is limited and early registration is suggested.

The Board of Directors of the Northern Illinois Ready Mix and Materials Association announced the election of Bernard Arquilla, President of Best Bricks, Inc., a NADD member company, as Second Vice President and James R. Holman, President of Holman Brick Company in Des Plaines, Illinois, as Secretary of the Association. Mr. Holman is the immediate Past President of NADD.

Mr. Thomas F. Murphy, President of BM & PIU presented the goals and objectives of the International Masonry Institute at NADD's Annual Members meeting in October at The Boca Raton and as a result NADD members have expressed an interest to participate in the I.M.I. program. More detailed discussions will certainly be on the agenda for future Board meetings.


Desa Buys Econmobiles

Desa Industries Inc., headquartered in suburban Baltimore, Maryland, has announced the acquisition of the Econmobile 620B, 640 and 720 high lift loaders from American Road Equipment of Omaha, Nebraska.

The Econmobile will be manufactured at the Insley Division of Desa Industries located in Indianapolis, Indiana and will be marketed through the Material Handling Division in Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly Buck Division.

Robert H. Deming. Chairman of the Board of Desa Industries, said the Econmobile"....fits into the overall scheme of our Material Handling Division that now offers construction equipment that ranges from high lift loaders to tower cranes, and from men-and material hoists to concrete pumps and construction towers." Roger Spahr Elected

The newly-elected president of the Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee is Roger Spahr, Knuth Masonry, New Berlin.

Other new officers for 1971 include: Len Belleau, Masonry, Incorporated, Milwaukee, vice president; Eldred G. Heidschmidt, D. G. Beyer, Inc., Milwaukee, secretary; and Robert Reisner, Joseph P. Jansen Co., Milwaukee, treasurer. All also serve as directors in addition to Kurt Froebel, Jr., H. Froebel & Son, Milwaukee: Helmuth Sawall, Sawall Masonry Construction Co., Brookfield and Gregor Pichler, Pichler Construction Co., Grafton.


Robert Dalton Honored
for Apprenticeship Work

Robert F. Dalton, director of labor relations for the Building Trades Employers' Association, was honored for his work in the national apprenticeship program. He received the award on December 22, 1970, at the Statler-Hilton in Cleveland. Dalton received a Certificate of Meritorious Service, "In recognition of outstanding service to the national apprenticeship program in the interest of the highest standards of craftsmanship."

Several top-ranking government officials signed the award: George P. Shultz, Secretary of Labor; Malcolm R. Lovell, Jr., Manpower Administrator: Arnold R. Weber, Assistant Secretary for Manpower, and Hugh C. Murphy, Administrator, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. Dan McCarthy, from BAT in Cleveland, presented the award.

Currently, Dalton serves on both local and state joint apprenticeship committees, as well as the local Cement Masons Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
