New Signode cart for
packaged block or brick
You'll save on-the-job handling time and reduce costs with this versatile portable cart. It's plenty sturdy enough to handle packaged brick or concrete block. Work goes faster and easier because the cart is well balanced, has a hand brake, dual wheels, and pneumatic tires. The forks and cross-arm are easily adjustable to the load.

Soaring High At
McCormick Place
Looking like huge, woven-wire window screens, the masonry sidewalls of the new Arie Crown Theatre soar 95 feet to the ceiling. The brick perforations help control the acoustics in the 4451-seat theatre that is part of the McCormick Place complex in Chicago. Mason Contractor V.S. Wallgren (MCAA) of Chicago used 6'6"-high "Trouble Saver scaffolding frames from Patent Scaffolding Co. to support men and materials during construction of walls. The new theatre is expected to be formally opened in 1971.
More than 39 per cent of all traffic fatalities in 1970 were due to excessive speed according to a survey by The Travelers Insurance Companies. Speeding accounted for 17,700 persons killed and 988,000 injured.
Mellon Pavilion
(Continued from page 25)
The mezzanine lobby is lighted by nine glass block panels, of dimensions varying from 5 feet high by 6 feet wide to 5 feet high by 12 feet wide, placed between exterior columns across the entire front of the building. The blocks, made by Pittsburgh Corning Corporation, Pittsburgh, include a 8" by 8" Vue Block, a transparent unit; and 8" by 8" and 8" by 4" units of plain Intaglio, a patterned block with white fiber glass mat inserted between the halves to diffuse light. Vue blocks are used in columns to afford vision. The central part of the panel is an attractive design composed of the translucent blocks, which diffuse light because of their undulant surfaces.
Designing windows for extreme ends of the building adjacent to the cylindrical towers at the corners of the pavilion also posed a challenge. From the exterior of the building, the window areas had to be uniform. But inside, the spaces behind the windows were to be used for a variety of purposes, from utility closets on the ground floor rear to waiting lobbies and simple open spaces on other floors. Activity behind these windows would provide a confusing and displeasing aspect to viewers outside the building. Again, the solution used was the use of a combination of glass blocks, harmonizing with the mezzanine panels.
Corner areas of the building on all floors are lighted by 5 foot high by 7 foot wide panels of glass block, again with columns of Vue Block to provide vision.
The building can accommodate more than 1,000 patients each day. Western Pennsylvania Hospital officials said it will significantly contribute to improved care of the 20,000 patients admitted annually to the 700-bed hospital.
