# Predict Construction to Reach $100 Billion
The value of new construction put in place in 1971 will hit the $100-billion mark for the first time in history, according to a new Standard & Poor's Basic Industry Survey on Building.
Vastly stepped-up Government efforts are expected to be a prime stimulus in increasing home building activity. The survey cites the growth in industrial housing as probably the most important trend in residential construction. Some 25,000-26,000 modular or factory built houses were manufactured in 1970. Such production could climb to between 200,000 and 400,000 units annually by mid-decade, with further gains likely in the 1975-80 period.
After a pronounced slowdown in the 1970-71 period, the important industrial and commercial sectors of the construction market should continue their growth patterns in the years ahead, but probably at a slower rate than that experienced in the 1960s.
