IMI Continues Its Growth
WASHINGTON, D. C. The capital cities of Georgia and New York State, six major cities in the Northwest, and others are the latest to write support for the International Masonry Institute (IMI) into collective bargaining agreements between mason contractors and the bricklayers' union. The announcement was made by IMI Chairman Donald R. Bidwell, who earlier announced that Chicago and Detroit had negotiated to fund IMI.
IMI was recently established by the Bricklayers, Masons & Plasterers International Union (BM&PIU) and the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) as a labor-management promotion trust to encourage quality, masonry construction. In nearby Idaho, the recent BM&PIU Conference Convention delegates voted unanimously to support IMI and to urge each Idaho local to participate, according to L.. Gerald Carlisle, BM&PIU Special Deputy.
