HI-BOND MORTAR SEMINAR
More than 200 architects, engineers, union officials and mason contractors attended the afternoon and evening sessions of a Hi-Bond Mortar Seminar and demonstration April 22nd in New York. The program was sponsored by the Associated Brick Mason Contractors of Greater New York, the Mason Contractors Association of America and the Metropolitan Brick Masonry Council.
Several new additives for mortar developed by the Dow Chemical Company were shown to improve the structural properties of brick and block masonry construction. It was shown that Hi-Bond masonry has a bond strength at least four times greater than walls built with conventional mortars. The end result is the capability of thin exterior walls, half as thick as the usual method, which results in lower construction costs and increased usable floor space in a completed structure.
This interested group watched the application of Threadline mortar, a part of the demonstration, with rapt attention. Many expressed the thought that this type of innovation would result in an increased demand for brick and block construction for interior as well as exterior uses.
