Avco Felker Aids in Rebuilding London Bridge
London Bridge has "fallen down" but with an assist from Avco Felker Corporation's industrial saws and diamond blades, it is being rebuilt 6,000 miles from its original home across London's Thames River. After the historic span was declared inadequate for automobile traffic, razing was begun in 1968. More than 20 million tons of the bridge's granite blocks were made available for relocation at Lake Havasu City. Arizona. There, they are being cut to size to form a new London Bridge which will duplicate the old at least on the outside. It will be the central attraction on a 200 acre, $50 million international resort complex in this six year old Arizona city. The final length of the $6 million structure will be approximately 1,000 feet. It will be 56 feet wide and stand 25 feet at center above the water level. Its final weight will run 130,000 tons. Creative Enterprises Inc., of Lake Havasu City has the on-site job of sawing the blocks to proper size for the bridge reconstruction and for cutting smaller pieces which will be merchandized as souvenir and collectors' items ranging in cost from $1.00 to $4,000 each. Avco Felker cut-off machines, diamond segmented blades and diamond core drills are being used extensively to perform the necessary stone cutting and shaping operations,
