According to the Guinness Book of Records, the world record for bricklaying was established in 1937 by Joseph Ragion of Illinois who, aided by helpers, placed 3,472 bricks in 60 minutes of foundation work at a rate of nearly 58 bricks a minute.

The Cape Town controversy arose from a planned bricklaying contest for amateur and professional bricklayers sponsored by The Argus with the finals to be held in Johannesburg. The mild feud received considerable publicity in Cape Town newspapers.

Kelly has been elected a vice president of New York based George A. David A. Bagley has been named assistant sales manager and director of marketing of Best's Blocks, Inc., Union City, Calif. Bagley previously had served in several capacities with the Portland Cement Association during the past 16 years. The Perlite Institute, Inc., New York City, has approved the applications of three new members. New applicator members are the Construction Specialties Co., Denver, and Triad Deck Co., Houston.

New associate member is Peletico Ltd., Nicosia, Cyprus. Dr. J.R.D. (Bob) Brown, project engineer for the Manpower Development & Training Department of the Portland Cement Association, retired on June 30. He joined the association in 1946 as a safety engineer and for many years helped direct its Accident Prevention Bureau in spearheading PCA-developed member company safety programs. Robert W. Kubik has been appointed advertising/sales promotion manager for Massey-Ferguson Industrial & Construction Machinery, Des Moines, Ia., succeeding Larry L Maiers who was elevated to national sales manager of recreation products for MF.
