Oury Appoints Arndt
Appointment of Charles J. Arndt as manager of the Marion (Ohio) operation of Oury Engineering Co., a division of Harsco Corporation, has been announced by officials of the parent organization. Arndt moves up from the position of director of engineering as successor to James H. Barnes, Jr.

Arndt joined Oury in Chicago in 1965 as the company's first fulltime engineer after ten years previous service with a mining equipment manufacturer. The holder of numerous U.S. patents, he received training at the University of Illinois and the Illinois Institute of Technology and was a language specialist with the U.S. Air Force Security Service.

Oury produces Beltcrete concrete conveying systems, a line of automatic and manual materials hoists, and other materials handling equipment for the construction industry.

People & Events

Gerald R. Conway has been appointed senior vice president of the international construction firm of George A. Fuller Co. and will be in charge of the Washington (D.C.) area and southeastern states. Walter G. Novack, Jr. has been named regional sales manager, Industrial & Construction Machinery, Massey-Ferguson, Ine., for Indiana, Ohio and most of Michigan, with headquarters in Akron.

Ray Contracting Co., Inc., Syosset, N.Y., announced that Anthony S. Raimo has become an active member of the firm as vice president.

Medusa Portland Cement Co. of Cleveland has announced the acquisition of Marion Brick Corp. of Marion, Ohio. JI Case Co., Racine, Wis., has elevated Lawrence H. Hodges and C.F. Grumley, both veterans with the company, to the position of vice presidents.


In Memoriam
JAMES C. TAYLOR
Masonry has just learned of the death of a prominent MCAA member from the Pacific Northwest-James C. Taylor. Mr. Taylor, who was well known for his outstanding dedication to the masonry industry, died on October 29, 1971. He was 68.

Mr. Taylor had been a bricklayer since 1919 and a mason contractor since 1946. He was president of James C. Taylor Co., Inc., Tacoma, Washington, a firm with an enviable reputation for performing quality masonry work. He was also Past-President and Secretary of the Tacoma-Pierce County MCA and had served on the Joint Apprenticeship Council for 24 years.

Jim Taylor will be sorely missed in his avid participation in MCAA as well as for his experience and knowledge of the masonry field.

Milwaukee MCA Board
Meets in Las Vegas
The Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee conducted its recent board of directors meeting in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Landmark Hotel.

While primarily a social event, the meeting was open to all members as well as prospective members of the group in keeping with a current membership drive. About 30% of the visitors to the meeting were non-members.

The theme of the confab was "Strength and Unity in 1972 Negotiations." Several delegates visited downtown jobsites. "We caused quite a ruckus," one of the men quipped. "The tradesmen were sure we were from OSHA."

Apprenticeship Dinner
The Phoenix Bricklaying and Stonemasonry Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee will hold its annual awards dinner at the Safari Hotel Convention Center, Scottsdale, Ariz., May 13.

Zonolite Promotes Four
In Midwestern Region
Several new managerial appointments have been announced in the Zonolite Midwest (formerly North-Central) region of Construction Products Division, W. R. Grace & Co. Robert L. Upchurch has been named regional insulation products manager responsible for coordinating sales and marketing efforts on distribution items, among them Zonolite attic insulation, masonry fill, glass fiber, and expanded polystyrene. Robert deBastian has become architectural products manager in charge of the specification sales effort on Zonolite roof decks, fireproofing, Masonry Fill, and textured products.

Robert Jacobson assumes responsibility for applications of polystyrene in specialized areas such as cold storage and metal building insulation. He will serve as a back-up on polystyrene for the regional sales group. Donald J. Ruble has been named regional product manager for textured products, comprising numerous Zonolite interior and exterior treatments of concrete, masonry, and drywall.

Concrete Seminar
Pump placement of concrete continues to grow, and even greater use of the method is expected in the next few years. In continuing service to its members and the industry, the American Concrete Institute will conduct the sixth seminar on concrete pumping, May 16-17, at the Shamrock Hilton Hotel, Houston, Texas, in cooperation with the ACI Houston Chapter.

Fees for the seminar are $75 for ACI members and $105 for nonmembers. Registration can be made by writing ACI Education Department, P.O. Box 4754, Detroit, Mich. 48219.
