MCAA member Herschel Hunt of Indianapolis spent some time in the hospital and now is back on the job again in good health. Stephen Raimo's firm, Ray Contracting Co., Syosset, N.Y., recently celebrated its 50th year in business-a record many construction companies would envy. In Kitchener, Ontario, MCAA Regional Vice President Eugene George and his lovely wife Pat recently became the proud parents of their eighth boy, Christopher John. This past Christmas the Masonry Institute of Michigan came up with a novel gift idea. It's an ample-sized coffee mug decorated with a wall of brick on which are super-imposed such slogans as, "A Warming Thought-Use Masonry" and "Masonry Puts People to Work-Not Machines." A very fine promotional piece for the entire Industry!

Schools To Modernize

Almost half the nation's school systems will be modernizing their facilities this school year and saving taxpayers money at the same time, according to a national survey of school business officials conducted by School Product News. An average 46.5 per cent of all school systems will upgrade their educational facilities through renovation, redesign and modernization of existing buildings this year, the publication reported.

By using existing structures with architectural and equipment modifications, school systems will save, in some cases, half the cost of new structures, will not remove valuable land from the tax duplicate, and will not disrupt the school's normal teaching schedule, the report said.
