Arizona Scholarships
Third-year student Dennis Andrejko at Arizona State University (Tempe) was this year's winner of the Lee Churchill Memorial Scholarship presented by the Arizona Masonry Guild/Masonry Industry Program. The scholarship is now in its 13th year.
Paul Scharf, a senior at ASU, won the Construction Specifications Institute Award. His winning specification was written on "Stone Masonry." Scharf was recipient of the Lee Churchill scholarship last year.
CMCA Meets in Calgary
The Canadian Masonry Contractors Association will hold its seventh annual conference January 31-February 2, 1974, in the Calgary Inn, Calgary, Alta. More than 300 delegates representing chapters in every province of Canada are expected to attend.
An all-day technical session will include speakers on all-weather masonry research, business management and foremanship training, job site safety practices, research findings on masonry mortar, and other developments in the masonry industry.
Mills Appointed Umpire
Dr. D. Quinn Mills, chairman of the Construction Industry Stabilization Committee, has been named to serve as umpire under the new plan for settlement of jurisdictional disputes in the construction industry which became effective June 1, 1973.
The impartial umpire is authorized to hold hearings on matters referred to the Impartial Jurisdictional Disputes Board in cases where there is a strike, picketing or interruption of work beyond 48 hours of notice to the international union for the purpose of determining whether a financial penalty should be assessed against the union.
