SUMMER EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

After a ten-year hiatus, the MCAA Executive Board Meeting returned to scenic Wisconsin July 19-22 at The Abbey resort in Fontana, nestled in the gently rolling wooded hills on the westernmost shore of Lake Geneva.

With the exception of a drizzly, overcast day that dampened the Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, July 20, the weather otherwise was warm, sunny and compatible, permitting the more than 100 members and their families to enjoy the rustic countryside and visit a number of local attractions.

The meeting was marked by an unusually large turnout from Canada as well as many family groups. From the standpoint of sheer numbers, the Joseph Luterbach family of New Berlin, Wis., dominated everyone in that category. There were no less than 13 in all!

On Thursday afternoon, July 19, the Finance Committee met under the chairmanship of Douglas Hughes. Consisting of Vernon Emory, Robert Harrison, Stephen Raimo and Robert Tubesing, the committee reviewed the Association's financial structure and prepared an operating budget which was presented to the Board for its consideration on Saturday.

Friday morning was taken up by committee meetings on Safety & Material Handling, Insurance, and Rights & Opportunities. These were respectively chairmaned by William Dentinger, Joseph Szabo and Anthony Zotono. At the Insurance Committee session, MCAA insurance consultant Walter T. Derk and Richard Lietz of CNA/Insurance outlined the unique commercial liability insurance program being offered to MCAA members. They reported an increasing number of mason contractors enrolling in the plan and expressed the hope that the program would be in full swing by the first of the year.

Committee meetings were adjourned at noon to break for lunch and the Annual Golf Tournament at the Plum Tree Country Club in nearby Harvard, III. Despite the disappointing weather, 28 golfers toured the sporty course, with Past-President Alien Young of Memphis emerging as champion. Six ladies also participated in the tourney.

On Saturday morning the Executive Board met, with President David B. "Mickey" Soloff, Jr. presiding. It heard full reports from the officers and committee chairmen and Treasurer Robert Harrison. The Nominating Committee also was appointed, consisting of the following members: Guy Apple, Robert Harrison, Stephen Raimo, Robert Tubesing and G.W. Veazey. Allen Young and Robert Ebeling were chosen as alternates.

A full report of the activities of the Internationl Masonry Institute was made by Charles F. Velardo, Secretary of IMI. He reported that IMI plans to nearly double its advertising efforts within the next year and that the 1973 ads presently appearing in 13 leading professional and business magazines are generating as many as 200 inquiries daily from architects, engineers and project owners.

The day was concluded with an "Attitude Adjustment" cocktail hour sponsored by Pittsburgh Corning Corporation and hosted by Robert Rawlins. Following this was the MCAA Annual Summer Banquet, which was highlighted by the presentation of awards for the various events and "accomplishments."

Sunday morning was devoted to a meeting of the Trustees and Advisors of IMI, followed by a reception that evening. At the meeting were IMI Trustees David B. Soloff, Jr., Charles Velardo, Eugene George, and George A. Miller; Advisors Edward Bellucci, James F. Richardson, L. Gerald

MCAA Regional Vice President Bob Tubesing can barely restrain his pleasure at letting everyone at the Annual Summer Banquet know he's from Milwaukee and what he thinks of it. He flashed the sign for all to see just before presenting a gift box of genuine, Made-In-Wisconsin products to President "Mickey" Soloff standing next to him. Bob and many other members of MCA of Milwaukee and their families were on hand for the MCAA Executive Board meeting in Fontana, Wis.

MCAA Past-President Allen Young (center) receives the Pittsburgh Corning Corporation's Glass Block Trophy signifying him as champion of this year's annual golf tournament at the Plum Tree Country Club in Harvard, III. Bob Rawlins (left), Pittsburgh Corning's representative, made the presentation. President "Mickey" Soloff helps Young position the trophy for the audience to admire it.
