'74 Convention Report
(Continued from page 32) "Mickey" Soloff received a handsome gavel set in addition to golf accessories in recognition of his two-year term in office.
In his acceptance address, President Velardo urged every mason contractor "to make salesmen of ourselves, if not pitchmen. If we are to survive, this is what we must do-sell, sell, sell masonry." Among his recommendations was to create the proper selling tools in cooperation with the International Masonry Institute to convince architectural schools and students of the value of masonry design. These tools would include more educational programs, such as loadbearing seminars which have received wide acceptance by the architectural community.
Following an excellent dinner, the audience-which numbered in excess of 900 was entertained by the King Family.
The MCAA Summer Executive Board Meeting, it was announced, will be held at Dunfey's Hyannis Resort, Cape Cod, Mass., June 27-30. The 25th Annual Convention of MCAA will be held in Orlando, Fla.
While the weather conditions were near-perfect throughout most of the convention, the annual golf outing on Wednesday afternoon was hampered by a sudden sandstorm that swept the Sahara/Nevada Country Club course. More than 90 diehards, however, participated. Special thanks to Robert Meagher, Convention Co-chairman, who performed miracles in putting the tournament together.
NOTE: The preceding report constitutes the Secretary's minutes of the 1974 MCAA Convention. A transcript of the proceedings will be on file at MCAA headquarters and may be reviewed on request by interested members of the Association.
