Rodney M. Vining, president, Construction Products Division, W.R. Grace & Co., Cambridge, Mass., is one of three Boston-area officials to be elected corporate vice president of the New York-based parent firm. The others are Robert A. Clabault, president, Dewey & Almy Division, Cambridge, and Robert W. Samuels, president, Polyfibron Division, Burlington, Mass. Troy W. Massey has been named vice president and manager for the central region of Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. with headquarters in Houston, Texas. Fred Beyer & Company, Chicago mason contractors, installed the glass block in the attractive new auditorium and educational building of Christ Unity Temple in Chicago. The structure was officially dedicated on November 18. The Canadian Structural Clay Association has officially changed its name to the Clay Brick Association of Canada. Headquarters remain at 5218 Yonge St., Willowdale, Ont.

Lift Phase 4 Controls From Cement Industry

Two top executives of the U.S. cement industry described as "welcome news to the industry and the public" the announcement by the Cost of Living Council that the industry has been exempted from Phase 4 economic controls.

Mayfield R. Shilling, board chairman of the Portland Cement Association, said that the council's action to decontrol cement "will make possible an improvement in the economic health of an industry that is faced with proliferating energy and environmental control costs, and will provide the incentive for the industry to invest in new capacity to meet the growing needs of the nation's construction industry."


Newly Formed Masonry Group Appoints Manyo

Stevans A. Manyo has been appointed executive director of the newly formed Northeastern Ohio Masonry Institute with offices in the Bulkley Building, 1501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. A graduate of Kent State University College of Architecture, Manyo has been associated with the building industry for more than 25 years. He has served in various capacities with Dela Motte Larson & Nassau, Architects; the Brick Institute of America, and Thomas Brick Co.

The Northeastern Ohio Masonry Institute is an association of the Cleveland Mason Contractors and Bricklayers Local #5.

New Masonry Cost Index Published by Utah Group

A new cost index for building masonry walls has been released by Utah Masonry Research & Promotion, Salt Lake City.

The 32-page, amply illustrated booklet includes a comparable wall cost index, contemporary design criteria, and detailed information on brick bonds, insulation, reinforcing, and mortar joints.

Paris In Two PCA Posts

George H. Paris, vice president of the Portland Cement Association, was elected to the additional position of secretary at the association's recent meeting in San Francisco. He succeeds Charles W. Reene, who resigned the post but will continue as group vice president for administration, finance, and public affairs.

Paris' new responsibilities include all corporate secretarial, planning and related business functions.


Zirpke Heads B.C. Group

Peter Zirpke of Peter Zirpke Masonry, North Vancouver, B.C., has been elected president of the British Columbia chapter of the Canadian Masonry Contractors Association.

Also elected were John Ekelund, Ekelund Masonry Ltd., Vancouver, vice president; Dino Maniago, Acme Masonry Ltd., Burnaby, treasurer, and Ed Jungling, Griston Masonry Ltd., Surrey. Secretary.


Masonry Institute Elects Ron Allen President

Ron Allen of Hokanson Building Block Co., Sacramento, Calif., has been elected president of the Masonry Institute, San Francisco, for the 1974 term.

Officers serving with him are James Guinn, Guinn Masonry, Redwood City, vice president; Russ Schmitt, H.C. Muddox Co., Sacramento, treasurer, and Angelo Polizzi, Polizzi Masonry, San Jose, secretary.
